    The North

Within the Northern vicinity of the city the wealthy gather behind meticulously trimmed hedges and high class victorian architecture. The streets are paved with stone, the buildings are made of brick, and the storefronts are brightly lit and inviting. In the North every establishment is made to cater to the rich and the wealthy. Many such places are used to the sometimes peculiar requests of the otherworldly but here there is little that money cannot buy - weather it be illegal or merely looking the other way. Vampires and Dark Hunters are often found upon these Northern streets, their long lives often contributing to their sizable wealth which allow them the luxuries that the North provides.

Miyako blinked a few times in surprise at the girl as she told the worker that she needed to ring up the clothes she was wearing. It caused an amused smile to tug at her lips as she watches Malia carefully. What a strange girl. She didn’t seem to get out much! Not deigning to reply, just allowing the worker to go through the motions of ringing up the clothing, she keeps an eye on the girl, worried that if she let her out of her sight she might do something a bit wild. “No, no keep them on. Don’t worry about it, I promise she knows what she’s doing,” Miya responds with a small simper. The small Asian woman is greatly relieved when the worker barely bats an eye at Malia’s odd bossiness.

Miya wasn’t sure she could really explain Malia.

Even when the girl questions about the payment options even going so far to offer to fight her, Miyako gives a small shake of her head, eyes darting back to the attendant, offering an apologetic smile. “It’s the same thing as cash.” Tapping her wallet, gesturing to the card she just slipped back into its home, “This card is money,” she explains gently before offering to remove the tags on the clothing. “There’s no reason for you to fight anyone, Malia,” Miya gently scolds, though there’s a soft simper tugging at her lips as she works quickly and efficiently. Watching the girl rip the tags off violently, Mi cringes a bit, worried the fabric would tear at such ferocious actions. Luckily, the fabric remains in one piece and the human woman finally has to snatch the plastic tag out of Malia’s mouth before she deftly removes it, depositing the trash in the nearby waste bin before linking arms with her and leaving the store.

Mi notes the hesitation and the stiffness within her companion’s body immediately, she simply chooses to ignore it and instead drag her outside into the cold. She’s pleased to see that Malia is no longer shivering within her own clothes but rather warm within that leather jacket Miya picked out for her friend. After a moment, the Asian woman begins to start the conversation again, asking the girl where she was from. A pause in her step as Malia answers and Miyako turns her bewildered eyes on her. Perhaps she was homeless! A bit horrified, the girl nods to herself a bit, tightening her arm on Malia. This would not do! “It sounds like you’ve been through a lot lately. If you need anywhere to stay, I’m sure you can stay with me and my roommate. I’ll have to ask him, But Arlo is always sleeping so I barely see him,” turning to her, Mi smiles brightly.

“If you ever need anything just let me know, I’d be happy to have you at my home. It’s not much, but it’s cozy and I’m a mean cook if I don’t say so myself,” Miya admits, the grin only widening. Once they cross the sidewalk it’s only a moment before they are pushing their way into the deli and Miyako tells Malia to order whatever she wanted. The Asian girl wasn’t quite prepared for what Malia was about to order and when she does, that quizzical look is dancing upon her face, mirrored by the worker’s. Releasing a breathy laugh to ease the tension, the worker breaks into a grin too, deciding it was merely a joke. “Er, Malia, is it okay if I order for you? I don’t think they have any of that here,” Mi says, patting the girl’s arm gently to ease the embarrassment if she were to feel any.

Waiting for a reply, Miyako turns and orders a ham and brie sandwich before ordering the same for Malia, “On hers, will you add a side of fruit? Whatever you have will do and maybe a couple of sodas?” she asks pleasantly, glancing sidelong at Malia, hoping she approves. The girl hardly drank soda ever, but she was curious to see if Malia had ever had one. Whipping out her wallet again, she pays quickly before looping her arm with Malia and steering her to a nearby booth. “They’ll bring it out to us – see? Here they are!” Miyako exclaims after settling into her booth as they arrive with their drinks. “Here, try! It’s delicious!” she says brightly, grabbing her own drinking and sipping the dark liquid through the straw.
