    The North

Within the Northern vicinity of the city the wealthy gather behind meticulously trimmed hedges and high class victorian architecture. The streets are paved with stone, the buildings are made of brick, and the storefronts are brightly lit and inviting. In the North every establishment is made to cater to the rich and the wealthy. Many such places are used to the sometimes peculiar requests of the otherworldly but here there is little that money cannot buy - weather it be illegal or merely looking the other way. Vampires and Dark Hunters are often found upon these Northern streets, their long lives often contributing to their sizable wealth which allow them the luxuries that the North provides.

It's not the long walk home that will change this heart, but the welcome I receive after the restart.

The press conferences and overwhelming number of public speaking engagements took a little while for Dareios to get used to. And it wasn't often enough that he was asked to speak or make an announcement in regards to something he was particularly proud of. But that wasn't the case today. The Mayor of Sacrosanct arrived at the city's only downtown university early in the afternoon. With the proper arrangements, (heavily tinted windows on the vehicle, and his own body shielded in a dark, full-body, sun repelling cloak that mimicked something ghastly reminiscent of ISIS) he could be escorted to a select number of events during daylight. Once he arrived on the university campus, he was housed in basement offices for meetings while he and his mobile staff waited for the sun to drop behind the horizon before he could give any public address.

There was something about being in the old musty halls of a college building that lifted his spirits, despite the tedious and seemingly never-ending precautions he had to take just to do his job. When Dareios was still human, his family was far too poor to afford him a proper education. He dropped out of grade school to help his father and brother on the farm in rural Ireland. But the lure of the Industrial Revolution drew him and his brother to Dublin as strapping and ambitious young men, where they were promptly met by lascivious vampires, who in turn, converted them. After decades of debauchery while he was still learning to control these newfound desires and instincts, Dareios made a point to get the education he sorely missed as a human. He spent many years at Cambridge and later Harvard, collecting an insurmountable number of degrees to his name. He was fascinated by so many subjects, and given the lengthy timeline he had acquired to live with his undead status, he saw no reason not to collect as many degrees as he so wished.

But time went on, and eventually his interests turned to other things. For some time he became immensely entrepreneurial. His businesses generated him a great fortune. And when he grew bored of that, he became overly indulgent in philanthropic causes. That eventually lead him to run for public office.

So Dareios revels in this current nostalgic moment while he wanders the halls (while still heavily guarded of course), of Sacrosanct's public university. Now that the sun had set and darkness was beginning to encompass the campus, he was due to give a spirited address about the grand opening of a new business incubation program, which was sure to bring new jobs and workforce training opportunities to the city. During this speech, he would be sure to include his endless, but subtle remarks about equality among the species. This program would be open to any being of any background, and classes and training opportunities would accommodate those day, night, and no matter the type of "food" they consumed.

The speech was well received, per usual, and after the handshakes and photos and the short press briefing, Dareios piled back into the car with his staff (this time albeit the ridiculous sun suit) with the intention to head back to Anacosta Heights. But given the weary expressions of those on his staff, he asked the driver to pull over at nearest college station coffee shop, and announced he was buying a round of java and three dozen doughnuts for them, on him, of course. Through muted cheers and a few claps on the back, Dareios pulled his peacoat tighter against his chest and followed the crew into the shop. He waved and smiled to a few that stopped to clap and snap photos from their cameras, and then turned his attention onto the barista at the counter in an effort to make this as normal a stop at a coffee shop as possible.
