Arlo James

See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch

Arlo’s shoulders merely lifted upward in a good-natured shrug, the boy entirely used to people making that same mistake, to assuming like Sebastian did, that he had some grand and glorious set of morals that stopped him feeding on the mortal population rather than the curious truth that he avoided them simply because their blood didn’t work. Still tasted alright, still fixed his wounds but failed to do anything beyond that in most cases. His newfound companion, in the least, seemed to simply accept that news far better than most did, a flurry of questions normally following whereas this one seemed embarrassed he’d gotten it wrong, apologised and moved on. If only more people were like the Englishman then maybe his life would be a damn sight easier. Arlo making that truly rare gesture in that moment to reassure him. After all, the guy had looked genuinely sorry and really it wasn’t that much of a big deal.

“Don’t worry about it, bud. Everyone gets it wrong.”

That lopsided grin lingered briefly on his features as the ardent blue of his gaze looked down at that man still resting on his chest in a fashion no man had really done before, Arlo making some consideration that maybe this guy ‘batted for both teams’ before dismissing the thought. You couldn’t really judge a man when he was high after all, could you? That conversation of music seemed to be one readily accepted by both men, Arlo oblivious to the other man’s internal consideration that song-writing was a genuinely impressive talent, the younger vampire grinning readily as he spoke of those instruments he’d once played and still very much could play if given the chance. It was a futile effort, he supposed, to even consider picking them up again. Did he really want to spend the rest of his life going to open mic nights and battle of the bands competitions in seedy bars? He’d seen the lights of stadiums before! Something about starting again at the bottom just seemed almost…pathetic and yet who the hell was he to have an opinion on that when he could barely afford to pay his rent and he had a hole in his left shoe? God, what if his old bandmates heard about it? He, Arlo, playing in some hole-in-the-wall bar for five people too drunk to even listen in the hope someone might throw him a few dollars for it. They’d have won then. Plus, who knew how far his skills might have slid since he last played? The dent to his pride surely wasn’t worth it, then again, how much pride did he really have left as it was? Joey had surely moved in on Cindy by now, his features frowning at even the thought of it before hurriedly dismissing all of it from his mind, his gaze focusing on Sebastian alone, a snort of amusement erupting from within him at the mention of Piano. His lips grinning once more.

“I totally would have guessed piano. Don’t get me wrong, I like you, but you look kinda like a guy who sits at home at night watching Antiques Roadshow for fun. The exact kinda guy who plays piano and serves napkins with dinner and has like ten fucking spoons that no one knows what to do with, am I right? Still, if we had a third guy to use as a drummer we could probably make a band. Got any friends?”

He hardly anticipated any real ideas of turning Sebastian into his bandmate, still, he could dream couldn’t he? A chuckle falling softly from him all the same before that conversation turned to sex, Arlo content to bemoan his failings in this area too- at least of late. There had been a time, once, when women had been as easy to get as water and then….he’d died. Sort of. Surprisingly most girls were still fairly willing to sleep with him- they did tend to like being awake for it though. Arlo so having decided that, for whatever reason he…..had some trust in this Sebastian fellow. At least enough to admit those truths to him. He was a decent guy. It had been awhile since he’d met anyone decent. He frowned slightly at the other man’s mutterings about not needing a harem, Arlo writing them off once more as simply the mutterings of someone still semi-drugged in the least, making some effort to listen to his advice all the same. It was logical advice. It made sense and yet still Arlo wasn’t exactly sure how much practice that was going to take, let alone who was going to let him practice on them. Sebastian mumbling something about ‘if only you knew’- at least, that’s what it sounded like, Arlo writing it off once more. People said odd things all the time with his venom rampaging through their veins. He was used to it. The younger vampire utterly oblivious to that true meaning behind them.

It was easy then to shift Sebastian to the nearest wall, his eyes rolling at the man’s grown of protests before he disappeared, hoping the other vampire could at least stay standing for a few minutes before he returned with that woman- placing her unconscious frame down at the base of the wall. Sebastian ungracefully dropping down beside her to…poke her. Great. This was the man he’d just taken sex advice from. Sebastian’s assurance that he gave great advice merely saw one of Arlo’s own eyes lift upward in a truly dubious fashion. A sigh falling from his lips as he moved to reach back down and haul Sebastian back onto his feet.

“Sure you do, bud.”

His own affinity rapidly embraced them both. Arlo content to land them out on the main street, releasing Sebastian’s arm a moment later to let the other vampire stand on his own. Sebastian almost immediately colliding with a lamp post before proceeding to wrap himself about it in an effort to stay standing. Arlo chuckled softly in amusement as he continued on up the street, quite content to watch his new friend stumble along behind him and fail to find himself anything to eat at all if only to prove his point that Sebastian was incapable. The giggle from a nearby woman saw his own lips lift into a smile towards her, hands tucking back into his pockets, Arlo going no further then a few more strides when the sound of that woman’s shoes hurrying across the pavement saw him turn. What on earth was she- oh. Sebastian had hardly failed to get beyond that lamp post and yet it apparently seemed he didn’t need to, the woman veritably throwing herself at him, her lips crushing to his own as Arlo merely felt his own eyes widen. Alright then. The sudden scent of blood permeated the air, tiny as those wounds were, stirring at his own hunger again. The more Sebastian fed, after all, the more he appealed to Arlo in turn and yet he had barely considered just what that woman had found so attractive about the vampire to throw herself at him before another woman suddenly crossed the street to hurry over to him with just as much passion.

“Fucking hell.”

It was little more than a whisper to himself alone. Sebastian releasing the first woman only to embrace the second one. Maybe he should have paid more attention to this guy’s sex advice. Hell, maybe he should have asked him what cologne he was wearing if this was the response he was getting. Arlo willing to admit he’d been, well, wrong. Even if he was mostly sure, now, that this had to be some sort of…ability. Two women in twenty seconds? Who did that? Any further thoughts on just how Sebastian was doing it were ended the moment the first woman begun to stroll towards him, Sebastian’s gaze meeting his own briefly before he gestured towards him- that girl immediately moving to do as she’d apparently been asked. Arlo was entirely to dumbfounded to move in that moment, the man shifting slightly back onto his heels as the woman’s hands found his chest, the younger vampire not quite able to prevent that simper that found his lips a the girl leaned forward to whisper. His eyes widening slightly once more at those words, before that huff of amusement passed his lips. Arlo looking back over the girl now towards the elder vampire.

“You’re a fucking smart-ass, did anyone ever tell you that?”

There was no true disdain within those words at all, Arlo unable to keep the amusement out of them all the same, his attention returned briefly to that girl now leaning against him, his gaze falling upon those neatly closed wounds on her next, that scent of blood still tugging at him. It was curiosity that saw him draw her closer, the woman so receptive to him it was almost ridiculous. Whatever the hell Sebastian had done to start the metaphorical motor was still running almost full steam as her hands slid beneath his shirt. God…..he liked her hands there. He would have had them anywhere. Had it really been a year? His lips brushed against her neck, finding that place Sebastian had bitten and yet, rather than biting again himself the younger vampire merely allowed his own tongue to brush over them, worrying at those wounds a little to open them, drawing barely a mouthful of blood from her just to….taste. Hmmm. It was hardly bad and yet as always- hardly satisfying. His own tongue brushed back over the wounds again, closing them now, a few words of thanks murmured to the girl before Arlo, rather reluctantly, let her go. His tall form crossing back over to Sebastian, waiting for him to finish and send the second girl on her way up the street before his own hand reached out to shove the other man’s shoulder playfully. With that new blood in his system Arlo’s own venom had surely been diluted enough now to give the man some of his senses back. His voice holding a teasing edge.

“Alright, come clean bud, what the hell was that? You might be pretty but those women came to you like moths to a flame. Chicks don’t do that unless their drunk or stoned and they weren’t.”

One eye lifted, curious now as his arms folded casually. God Sebastian smelled good all over again. Arlo forcing his thoughts away from that as best he could.

“You sure you don’t want to go to a party, Seb? I mean, I’m just saying, I’d probably let you be my wingman.”
