Arlo James

See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch

He’d never seen anyone be so excited about the prospect of going to a store before, the little bear practically purring at him as he agreed to take her. All the things she could have had and she wanted to shop. Not even shop really, not like most girls, no, she wanted to buy vegetables or fruits or just food in general he supposed. It was hardly the request he’d anticipated and yet he supposed realistically he shouldn’t have been as surprised as he was. After all, she was a panda. What else was she going to want? His hands reached eagerly forward for that keyboard again, Arlo careful to log out of those pages and close those tabs before logging of the computer entirely. That scrap of paper was tucked neatly back into that shoebox along with the cactus and those other bits of, well, whatever they were before the vampire tucked it beneath his arm. The shoebox having become far more valuable then he’d anticipated in that single hour tonight. His arm reached out then, affording his Little Bear that chance to scurry up and onto his shoulders before folding that hoody up and over to conceal her from view. She wrapped herself about his neck almost easily, that feeling of warmth distinctly pleasant, Arlo rolling his shoulders slightly if only for that sensation of warm fur against his neck before lowering his head just a little and tucking his hands into his pockets. Arlo content to at least appear the very epitome of that moody, belligerent young adult as he hurried past the librarian, the man at least attempting to give off the air he hardly wanted to stay and talk or get question about why he had a Panda in his jacket.

Fortunately, that near icy stare was just about all he was given. The woman probably still made about that noise he had made earlier and yet for now he hardly cared, his mood having become vastly improved, that grin readily upon his features as he stepped out and onto that street. His ‘inheritance’ tucked firmly beneath his arm. He was still going to have to work on that weird….power thing. God knows that was what had gotten Patrick in trouble in the end, he was sure of it. Still, for now, that problem seemed remarkably different, Arlo hardly even minding that cold night air or the sounds of the traffic or that prospect of returning to that empty apartment. His hand reached easily for the Panda once more, stroking at that red fur as she nuzzled into it, those small touches of affection seeming all the more meaningful tonight before that very idea of going home seemed to strike him. He probably should ask his Little Bear if she wanted to go home with him right? He had a habit of just…taking her to his apartment and yet what if they were closer to hers? What if she didn’t want to walk back through the streets alone when the sun came up or whenever it was she left? Did she even have a place? Someone surely looked after her right?

His own features scowled once more with the thought before he offered both those suggestions, after all if she could type on a keyboard then she surely could make a decision about where she wanted to be taken couldn’t she? Arlo readily held both hands up towards her then, the man hardly caring what anyone passing by might have thought of the vampire seemingly talking to himself with his hands in the air. In this city that was hardly the most unusual thing they were going to see tonight after all. That sudden lick against his cheek at that mention of having someone to take care of her brought that almost playful snort from within him, that gesture almost ticklish as he chuckled and yet whether or not he had so understood the message she was attempting to convey remained to be seen. How was he to now she didn’t need taking care off? At least, not in the way he thought she did. Arlo still rather undecided on just what she was other then a sort of….magic panda and yet magic pandas still had owners right? Didn’t they ever miss her when she was out with him? Maybe she just liked him better. That thought oddly….pleasing even if he wasn’t sure why. That sudden touch of her nose to his hand drawing his thoughts back. His place then.

“Alright then, babe. As long as you’re sure. Hold on tight.”

He took only several more steps before letting that affinity reach out to encircle them both, that teleportation ensnaring them readily before carrying them easily several streets over, Arlo landing near soundlessly atop an apartment building only to peer down and check the nearest street sign before teleporting again. The vampire landing easily out the front of his own building now. Well. That saved a good twenty minutes or half an hour or so right? His bright blue gaze glanced briefly upwards, making sure his little pet was still safe and nestled within that hood before he headed for the lobby. He headed easily up those flights of stairs, those keys fished from his pocket as he worked to jiggle them in that finicky lock, the door at last pushed aside only to be kicked closed behind him once more. One hand reached up to push that hood back then, fingers running through his dark hair as he peered around that dingy, cold apartment. God, he couldn’t wait to say goodbye to this place and yet….where was he going to live? Was he really going to live in this city…permanently? He hadn’t had a permeant address in over three years. It had never been safe enough to stay. Then again he’d almost made something of a life here, almost. He….sort of had a job, or a few little ones, the local coven hadn’t tried to murder him yet and he’d made at least two friends between Little Bear and Sebastian. Maybe he could hang around a little.

His gaze glanced up at that clock then even though his own internal clock already assured him of how early it was getting. Might as well start getting ready for bed. Arlo moved effortlessly through that apartment then, making sure those windows were closed and locked and those blinds pulled down to block out any light before heading for his own room. Arlo having taken several measures to make sure this was easily the darkest room in the house. His bedroom possessing actually decent block-out blinds, the vampire moving to close that adjoining bathroom door and push his bedroom door ajar. After all, Little Bear would undoubtedly want to leave at some point right? He kicked his shoes easily off then, neatness clearly not one of Arlo’s stronger traits, those shoes tossed where they fell- his socks easily following suit before he reached to gently lift his Little Bear from his shoulders and place her on the bed. He moved to peel his shirt and jacket from his body then and toss them to the floor in turn. Arlo simply not bothered enough to worry about his jeans tonight as he tumbled back onto his bed then and beside his Panda. The vampire hoisting her onto his chest then.

“Thanks for coming with me tonight, Chicka. Sorry about that freak out I had at the bar over that shoe box and all.”

He gestured briefly to that box he’d placed on the nightstand beside his bed. Tomorrow he’d have to work out how to convert that bitcoin into real cash, his features frowning slightly as he reached for that box then, fishing that cactus out to stand it upright beside the bed. It had been in that box long enough, surely. Arlo laying back against that bed then.

“Hope you ready to raise a cactus with me, Babe.”

His lip quirked easily then, that soft chuckle upon his lips before that yawn readily followed. That slowly rising sun beginning to take its toll on the man as his fingers lightly toyed with the fur off his little pet. Arlo unwilling to deny how much he simply enjoyed that company and the warmth of her against him, that ‘sleep’ hardly feeling nearly so bad with someone beside him. The vampire managing a few more moments of wakefulness before finally succumbing to that sleep.
