We were chasing the thunder inside the storm;

Tetradore opened his mouth to speak, and in truth she didn’t really expect him to say much about the matter. Yet the words he offered possessed a reassurance which almost seemed uncharacteristic. Much like this whole encounter was. It was as though the two could just simply interact without their hardened facades. The capabilities of that fort were almost magical if they could get Tetradore to open up, even if only a little. As though there were cracks within that hardened shell he created for the world to keep everyone at bay. She recognized it only because of the one she made for herself, that calloused exterior to keep her safe from a life that had almost defeated her. She would be a broken woman if she didn’t cling to that shell with all her might. Perhaps she would have damn well lost her mind. That psychological torture was surely the worst form of torment.

It felt nearly impossible to explain feeling like you’re in someone’s twisted little game. Like a lost little ping pong ball and they toy and they toy until they are done with you. Not a single action your own even though they make you feel like it is, it wasn’t. However, Tetradore’s words are sobering and she clings to them in a way, wanting nothing more than to believe them. She didn’t want to be skeptical, not with this. So even if it is a promise that might not be kept she believes in it. One little white lie made with the best intentions wasn’t the worst thing to have ever happened, at least not in this very moment. In truth, it was impossible to know what the future held for either of them. “It sounds like you speak from experience.” Mira peered at him almost inquisitive but doesn’t pry; wedging further into things that he might not be willing to share. “I hope you are right..” She cracked a smile, putting on that brave face she often used in situations where her thoughts were wary. Although, in that very moment she chose to believe those words, despite it only being the very beginning of a long chapter.

As the conversation shifts to that disastrous fire, and she could not fight that urge to touch him. As though she could be that reassuring force that sometimes only touch could provide rather than mere words alone. She wondered what happened to the person who started that inferno, if they got what was coming to them. After a moment when that emotion subsided she realised what she did, that small gentle caress and slightly felt the twinge of embarrassment. Well that was slightly awkward. Yet the man didn’t say a damn thing about it. Nor did he recoil at that touch, in which she would have felt pretty ridiculous at that moment. Simply reaching out in an attempt to comfort someone who probably didn’t need or want this lone wolf’s sympathy. Before the embarrassment could truly settle in, she spoke, allowing whatever words that popped into her head to simply escape her lips. Almost nervously, that now idle hand tucked that fickle strand of hair that decided to continuously be unruly. Her hair was as wild as her inner wolf spirit. “Who would do such a thing? Yeah, I know there are terrible people that just do terrible things for no reason whatsoever. I just don’t understand what drives them.” She wondered out loud, not expecting an answer. Knowing all too well of that destructive nature. Having gone through what she has, there was no room for reassuring. No way in hell would she dare to touch another in that pack longer than absolute necessary. In her mind, they were not pack, but a means to end. That was until she could find that right moment to escape. The she-wolf kept herself severed off on purpose, despite putting on the show of her life to feign loyalty. The alpha took away everything she ever valued, her family, her freewill and the woman she could have been. Not to mention the innocence that had been all but obliterated before her, like the alpha himself took a damn sledge hammer to the glass of innocence and destroyed it all.

Mira could see him retreating in a way, as if pulling back those feelings that pooled out around them. Just as easily as he shared but a glimpse of him. It was almost visible the way he sealed himself shut like a steel enforced wall slamming down with the loud hollow thud of metal on concrete. It probably could not have come at a better time anyways considering that strange but tender moment still left her a little embarrassed with herself. She cleared her throat, sitting up a little straighter. But their easy conversation easily returned when he offered her that apartment and she nudged him playfully with her foot along with that playful retort. The mere offer allowed her to muse of the possibilities of establishing herself here, a life she could choose for herself. Not holed up in that rotten cave the past alpha called his domain. Her very room felt like a prison cell and that knock when he banged on her door would strike unspeakable dread within her heart right along with that haunting whistle the man tormented the pack with in that painful mockery. She hoped she never had to hear those sounds again.

Regardless, Mira owed Tetradore. She was decisively confident about that. She had offered to take him out for some fun, perhaps a place she could start, whatever fun was. She really didn’t have the best gauge of fun considering the life she possessed before this. It’s not like she hung out around town and did whatever normal people did for amusement. Her life was strictly business except for those rare times she stole for herself, retreating within her animal form to simply set herself free, if only for a little while.

Well wasn’t she just full of surprises today. First she reached out and touched his hand, second she offered to do something ‘fun’, and thirdly she mentioned watching a movie. How utterly normal. It was so very unusual to her. Those small gestures that human’s took for granted. But for her, it was far from her normal. Yet the peculiar question wasn’t exactly met with a definite yes. However, he didn’t quite say no either. He was certainly a different kind of man. How often did they simply get a moment to enjoy a movie? Hell, she had those movies sitting there all week and she still didn’t touch them. She was sure she would have tried to figure out the TV herself on her own. In the event of that, she was positive something might end up irreversibly broken.

The golden eyed woman watched as Tetradore left the entrance of their fort curiously; rolling over on her belly to crawl so she could efficiently peer out of that entrance. She lounged idly half sticking her head out of the fort that almost seemed like a wolf peering out of her den. It was damn comfortable she could easily fall asleep within its plushy confines like a lazy wolf on a hot summer day. “Fair enough.” Was all she said to his indifferent response to her question to take part of that mundane ritual of watching a movie. She eyes him curiously as he tried to make the older television work, watching him as he worked his technological magic as he fiddled with the wires. He then went so far as hitting it! To be honest, she would have been rather disappointed if they couldn’t make the tv work. The were-panther huffed at the television as it defiantly protested and yet eventually and reluctantly as Tetradore, it flickered on. Apparently, hitting it oddly seemed to do the trick. Perhaps being as old as it was, it deserved to be temperamental. She grinned feeling like a kid as the tv flickered to life, excited to watch a movie. It didn’t really matter which one. Hell, she couldn’t remember the last time she watched anything to this extent. It must have been years upon years. She used to love them. He called over his shoulder, declaring his victory of man vs technology.. “Yay!” She exclaimed almost as gleefully as she enjoyed that delicious cookie earlier.

“Can we watch the movie with the panther that looks like you on the cover? Let’s see if you’re famous too.” That playful teasing sarcasm left her lips as she lay on her stomach, propped up on her arms. It was the only familiar title she saw in the stack, ‘the jungle book’ oh how she loved that story as a kid.

I'd rather be dangerous;

MIRA RAMOS
