We're all rotten, buried and forgotten,

Living it up underground

Ace was just soaking up the attention that the warlock was giving him, like the most luxurious sunshine on his black coat. It was no surprise sterling was one of his favourite humans. His top two people were definitely Isolt and Sterling, they were the best people in the Harley’s life, it was no surprise they held a spot with the ebony canine. It would seem everyone else was met with a sense of casual indifference or grumpiness. Ace was her little partner in crime, he was there through it all, when her life was torn apart and tipped upside down. He knew how to be there for her, even if it was just being at her side, looking up at her with those knowing sweet chocolate eyes. It was amazing he survived this long, considering she had been kidnapped and broken down. Her companion didn’t deserve the limited years he was offered as his species dictated. It wrenched her heart unlike anything before, the thought of her companion leaving her in this life for good. Was it wrong to think that way? A childish notion to not accept what was fact, life and death was so very cut and dry for a mortal. She intimately knew life and death far too well than most would ever have to.

She shoved those thoughts of panthers and felines far away, this wasn’t about her or the convoluted past and run in’s with the wrong people. Needless to say she was still triggered by the mention of the feline that attacked him, wondering if it were linked. A sense of unease washed over her, but she listened to whatever Sterling revealed. He was lucky he made it out alive, hell she was lucky she was alive after the run in with the terrifying beasts. If it not for the vampire’s wishes to simply torment her she would have experienced far worse. She was brought to the brink of death and looked at it square in the eye, the most chilling part was that it didn’t scare her, the death part. A normal human should have been scared senseless, but not Harley. Sterling was attacked by a were who happened to be recently changed? Was she hearing that right? A look of sheer disbelief found its way upon her face unbidden. Well shit, she wasn’t expecting that plot twist. “Shit, that really sucks. Is he still around? He must feel like a real asshole now.” She shook her head, her words unfiltered and not realising that she may hit a nerve. The last thing she wanted to do was to hurt him more than he already was, but the woman had a knack for pushing buttons and revealing old wounds. She simply couldn’t help it. She wanted to hug him, but that went against her very nature. She wasn’t exactly a touchy feely kind of girl. But that look upon his face said it all. She knew she would be there, of course, she wasn’t good at it but she would do her best. Those violet eyes remained upon him to make sure he wasn’t just going to come undone and start crying. When your boyfriend was a supernatural it always had to get damn complicated, she should know.

Regardless, the man seemed like he needed a good ol’ fashion distraction. The woman may have been absolutely useless at consoling but she was damn talented at distractions. The violet eyed woman followed him into the kitchen, staying out of his way as he honed in on his fridge, regardless of his injury he danced about that small but well-used space with a practised ease. She knew of his love for cooking, never understood it but she certainly had reaped its rewards of her friend being a good cook. It seemed like despite the world being cruel to him, this would never change. He looked a lot less distressed this way. Cooking up magic seemed like it should be a natural progression, considering his abilities.

He uttered some words saying he wondered what a magic plant looked like. “Hell, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe your magic brings out its magicalness..” It was amazing how he just formed herbs at his command. Even if it was just basil, it was magical basil. The explosions seemed more normal that forming plant life out of nothing. How strange and yet she found herself transfixed by it all the same. She peered at him curiously, feeling utterly useless but it was amazing to see the man work. It was amazing the way he plunged his hands in the soil and up sprouted basil. Her mouth nearly hung open. He seemed frustrated by it. What the hell? If she could make things from nothing she would be damn well impressed with herself.

She kept her mouth shut as she saw the concentration lines appear upon his face, not wanting to ruin his fierce attentiveness at what he was doing. But she drew closer to get a better look, leaning up against the counter he was working on, peering at the empty pot he was focusing on now. Maybe this wasn’t going to work, maybe they just needed to blow off some steam and blow up stuff. But then something unexpected happened, an entirely new plan sprouted up from the dark, damp soil. She straightened up a little, her eyes widened a bit. “Woah.. OH! That looks different than the last one.”

The warlock asked if the near luminescent plant looked magical to her. Hell if she knew. It looked like a plant, even if it was different than his last attempts. “Your guess is as good as mine..” Without thinking she tentatively reached out to touch the leaves of this new mesmerising plant. She didn’t know what would happen if it was magical but for some reason, she just had to touch it. The urge has done no good for her in the past and yet here Harley goes again, ignoring all better logic. As soon as she touched it the plant seemed to vibrate and shock her, the feeling travelled up her arm and into the core of her body. She recoiled so fast that she felt like she could have vampire speed. “What in the fuck.. was that…” She clutched her hand as if it bit her. Yup, her bet was that this was magical. “I think it's definitely something.. Fucking plant bean stock thing bit me. Dammit. I’m not going to turn into something am I?” The usually brazen girl was apprehensive now, convinced that that plant was alive. Yes, yes plants are alive, alive in an unusual sense. “Be careful with that thing.” She stood on guard as if it were going to attack. Hell, she wished she had a weapon now, even if she looked ridiculous. She had not noticed that ace joined them, sitting there quietly amused as he watched everything as though he knew more than he was letting on. At least he seemed to be enjoying himself, Harley was preparing herself for the end of the world. Same old story, different day.
