Sebastian Ellington

I thought you knew I was filthy rich
I thought you knew I never answer my phone
I thought you knew I was a late night with a bad bite I thought you knew.

That tale of love and loss that fell from Arlo's lips was wholly unfortunate and yet, it was not entirely unique in any fashion. That sexual longing was a sensation he knew well, one that fell easily into his affinities. How many loyal souls had he coaxed from their lovers arms? How many times had he been the root to the ruining of some sort of relationship? Likely more times then even he cared to dwell on. Although Arlo seemed entirely unaffected by that disappointing affair, Sebastian had the sort of sense to assume otherwise. After all, if the man had made the effort to write a song for the woman, surely he must have cared for her in some fashion. Though, perhaps this too was entirely stereotypical of those circles of musicians the man had once run with. Even so, the vampire made some effort to reassure his companion that such problems of the heart would, eventually, be eclipsed by the same sort of loving hold that so strongly grasped the Englishman. There was someone out there for Arlo, of that he was altogether aware of, even if he didn't see it fit to share with his companion the rather concrete proof he quite literally stared at. His gaze fluttered towards that string that ran along the floor and towards that window and yet, that color of that thread told him well enough his intervention in that relationship was hardly necessary. Whomever she was, she would find Arlo soon enough.

His attention drifted back towards his companion as Arlo so easily waved off that notion of soulmates and true love as if such things were impossible for him to ever achieve. His eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly at the fashion in which Arlo so seemed to regard himself in that moment, as if furniture and a lack of wealth somehow defined his character. Slowly, Sebastian's head shook ever so slightly. "I would not discount yourself so easily, Arlo. A long time ago, I spent several years as a prostitute and then I was a...companion, of sorts, to elderly women and now I'm off buying keyboards in the middle of the night on a whim to write a song for a man I fell in love with." A rather pointed look crossed his features in that moment. "You have eternity to live, this is only your life for however long you want it to be. This hardly defines who you are." He was preaching. Even he knew it as Arlo started with far more attention than necessary at that paper in that notebook. A small frown crossed his lips before a soft sigh left his lips. He hadn't meant to, truly, but, this was what friends did right? They pushed away insecurities with words of encouragement. Maybe he'd gone too far? Too personal? He was shite at this.

He turned his attention towards that keyboard, that idle comment that those music notes looked well enough upon that piece of paper saw a small, subtle scowl upon his features. Sebastian was rather certain he had far more experience with this then his companion. He'd been studying and practicing and playing those classics far longer than Arlo had even been alive! Even so, he conceded to that small gesture, playing the beginning of that song he'd started within his ballroom. Those notes came easily enough to him, so conveying with simple ease the way he'd felt his own heart flutter within his chest that night he'd heard Dorian's voice mutter his name on those docks all those months ago, or the way he'd been so utterly nervous when he'd shown up on Dorian's doorstep with that flower between his fingertips, questioning all the while if he'd chosen something appropriate or pushed things too far too quickly. That song came rather abruptly to an end as he hit that last note he'd written down, those memories fading with it, as too did that magic. Expectantly, his bright blue eyes turned towards his companion, watching as Arlo stared down at his shirt before shaking his head in some clear effort to refocus his attention, that simple action prompted the corner of his lips to twitch upwards, at least momentarily. It was the simple notion of starting a band, however, that caused his features to fall.

His head shook ever so slightly as Arlo insisted the possibility of coaxing people to feel certain emotions, at being able to control the story the songs told. If only it was that simple. Songs had a habit of creating a soul all their own, it was one he'd watched Dorian paint time and time again, that end result often surprising. To write only songs that created a mood to party would be...difficult at the very least, not to mention entirely limiting. His lips parted, fully intending to tell the man all the reasons why such an idea would not work only to have the fellow dismiss it as impossible 'for now'. A soft breath left his mouth and yet, Sebastian hardly saw a reason to voice his thoughts any further on it for now, instead willingly turning his attention back towards that song at those suggestions Arlo offered, along with the addition of those notes. What he hadn't expected, however, was the comment of wearing a nicer shirt. A quizzical glance momentarily crossed his features before he commented on the simple fact that shirts, he was sure, belonged on the floor - at least, such was how so many of his early evenings with Dorian were spent. Hell, that was how many of his evenings to this date either ended or begun and yet, he'd have nothing less. That idle comment of the temperature in the room drew his thoughts from those far more sensual places, his gaze momentarily darted towards the man before he shook his head, instead turning his attention towards that keyboard as he played those few notes, trying out several combined cords before finding something he thought he could piece together.

The vampire was oblivious, in that moment, to those internal thoughts of his companion as Arlo remained nestled in that sofa. It was only once he was certain of that those notes that he offered his companion those two renditions he had come up with in those moments prior, Arlo, for once, seeming wholly lost in his thoughts. His eyebrow rose but briefly, those bright blue eyes briefly watching his companion for a moment before his fingers repositioned upon the keyboard, starting over from the beginning with those same light, airy notes. His attention was fully focused upon those keys, missing that simper that crossed Arlo's features, much less the same importance this song held for his friend as it did for him. That first rendition came to a halt, those few simple words leaving his lips before the vampire easily shifted into the second song, starting again with that light tune before that song shifted into something slower, something more, that song nearly the backdrop of those memories he so dearly held with the fae King. He remembered the days he'd spent dwelling on the man when he had been forced to abruptly leave the city, he remembered those feelings of warmth and excitement when Dorian had finally admitted that there was no one else within his life beyond the vampire, when they had agreed to be in a sort of committed relationship. He remembered with such clarity that night the fae had taken him within that bathtub, that Christmas within his family home, that ring that rested on his finger. All of it meant so much to him, all those sweet moments were ones he so poured into that song until those notes came to a rather swift end.

His gaze turned towards his companion, watching Arlo for a moment only to notice his own name scribbled on that notebook. A small grin crossed his features and yet, he said little of it, instead simply watching his companion as Arlo suddenly glanced up. His breath so audibly faltered, those words near muttered in the wake of those emotions he'd subjected his companion to and yet, he found himself...curious of what Arlo had felt in those moments. That shock in Arlo's voice prompted a soft chuckle from Sebastian's lips, that warm sound falling silent as the man attempted to explain those feelings he was subjected to. It was that simple sentence that Arlo would have died for him, that the sun wasn't nearly as bright as he was that prompted a sort of softness across the fellow's features. It was funny, really, although Arlo so classified those words as little more than lame, they described those feelings he held for Dorian far better than he had ever been able to. "It's not lame." He stated after a moment, pausing as his gaze slowly shifted over those white and black keys in an almost self-conscious gesture, "Those are exactly the kind of feelings I was going for...the second rendition it is." He tried to remain focused upon that piece, though, with the emotions he felt, and the ones he forced upon Arlo, it was difficult to do so.

That request to wait caused his head to bob ever so slightly, the vampire merely contently himself with playing with cords and several notes here and there for what might come next, none of those fiddlings enough to coax his affinity to life. It was the sound of his name that drew his eyes briefly, the man inquiring, "Hm?" That question caused his head to tilt ever so slightly and yet, he was hardly sure why Dorian's species mattered. "No, he isn't." Sebastian stated, watching Arlo as he laid on that sofa. There was something in those words that made the vampire want to reach out to his companion. It was near habitual, the way he so often had once conformed to the wants of others and yet - this was about far more than just tonight. This was about the man he loved far greater than anyone else. A weak simper crossed his features at Arlo's insistence that he kept his clothes on. "Don't worry, I'll make sure you stay fully clothed." The vampire promised in a rather solemn tone. Still, it was that comment on Dorian being worth him that so tugged as his thoughts. "It's not like that, you know." He commented after a moment of consideration, "I'm fairly certain I do not deserve him. You and I are not entirely all that different, Arlo…" Sebastian's voice trailed off as his fingers lightly ran over those keys, merely feeling that familiar instrument under his fingertips even if he wasn't playing them. After all….guys like Sebastian thrived on those women who wanted a good time, a one night stand, a brief affair...and Dorian? Dorian was a King, he was within a league Sebastian never had hoped to even consider before now. He had no idea what prompted the man to stay with him and yet, Sebastian made every effort to be the very person he believed his lover deserved.
