Arlo James

See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch

He liked this song. He liked this song a lot. Arlo’s feet very near tapping to that sound as he wandered down the street, his attention firmly on that music that played in his ears and the ipod he held in his right hand. The vampire effortlessly turning that music up and down in time with the beat. The best lines always sounded better when played louder after all. He hardly cared for those curious looks several people offered him, the man humming along with that sound as his feet scuffed along that pavement. A new ipod was hardly an extravagant purchase and yet, with his newfound wealth, it had been one of the few things he’d actually chosen to buy. The rest of that money had been secured within his bank account until he found the time to sort it out and remove what he owed people and then work out what he had left once he was finally out of debt. Then, maybe, he could speak to Sebastian or even Damon or some vampire who knew what they were doing when it came to turning money into, well, more money. That was the goal right? To have….something to live off.

Arlo rounded that corner then, the man glancing down at the screen of the ipod to scroll back through those songs, searching for just the one he needed before an idea of sorts settled within him. This was a good opportunity to practice right? Arlo attempting to reach out for that ipod with his affinity. He could feel that energy and yet he could feel the energy of five million other electrical devices around him too. Alright. Which one was his ipod? How could he tell? Did an ipod feel different to a phone or a car or like….a watch? Maybe he should just test it and see, what harm could that do right? He extended that affinity further then, the man attempting to see if he could get that ipod scrolling. He’d been able to work that keyboard from Sebastian fairly easily, by that notion he should be able to scroll a music player and yet, up in his apartment it had been easier to find that keyboard. Down here on the street isolating one singular piece of technology was a whole lot more difficult. The vampire frowning slightly in concentration before a woman hurrying passed him started to mutter under her breath in irritation, his gaze glancing down towards her phone as it frantically started scrolling through her messages. Ok. Well. He was close right?

It took several more tries and some rather intense staring on his part before he managed to actually stop hijacking peoples phones and locate his own music device, that little screen scrolling neatly in front of him as that toothy grin all but danced on his features. Now…how did he make it stop? It was no more then a few minutes later that the man gave up entirely. Arlo resorting to using his fingers once more to stop the ipod on the song he wanted. He was never going to get home at this rate! To think, Seb thought he could control planes and cars and vacuum cleaners. Arlo damn near sure he’d have been excited if he could manage to change the tv station without accidentally hacking the Pentagon or the Hunter Council database like he’d done last weekend. With that new song on play the man readily made his way back down that street again, the fellow oblivious to the red-haired woman he’d startled and whom had started following after him now. Arlo entirely absorbed in his music. He could have played this rift once, he was sure, his fingers almost taping those notes before that simple feeling overcame him.

It was almost…strange, like a tightness in his chest and yet it was a feeling he’d felt before. The very sort of instinctive one that seemed to find him whenever those more vampiric senses for danger were triggered. He had, once, largely chosen to ignore them and yet he’d learned quickly enough that sixth sense of sorts generally didn’t flare for no reason at all. His step hesitated only slightly, the man attempting to look casual as he glanced to the side and behind himself, as if he was checking a street sign before wandering forward a little faster and scanning that area again. He didn’t see anyone alarming and he sure as hell didn’t smell anything unusual. Still- he had survived this long by being at least mildly cautious. Arlo unwilling to lead anyone to his home- just in case he was being watched. He ducked smoothly into that side street then, the man teleporting abruptly up and onto the roof of the nearest building before crouching down to peer over the edge. If someone was looking for him they’d come down here right?

It was barely a few seconds later before some….girl turned into the street. The young woman glancing about as if actually searching for someone. Wait. Had a girl been following? This girl? Women didn’t normally follow him. Especially not hot ones like this that also happened to be clinging to guitars like they were right out of a rather sexy dream or something. This had to be a simple coincidence right? For several moments longer Arlo simply…watched her, those headphones pulled from his ears to drape easily about his neck as he peered down towards her. One hand lifted to run through his dark hair almost idly, the vampire contemplating his own choices in that moment. On one hand this was just a coincidence, he hadn’t been being followed and the Hot Girl would leave. On the other hand maybe she had been looking for him to tell him he’d clearly won some sort of lottery that involved her speaking to him. Else she was sent by someone to collect a debt from him and they’d just sent their most innocent looking recruit in the hope he’d cave at the sight of a pretty face. Hmmm. They knew him well. Oh, look out she was walking away. God, was he supposed to do something? Maybe he should just let her go?

“Hey!”

That word was out of his lips before he’d truly meant it to be, Arlo momentarily alarmed he’d said anything at all, the vampire more than aware that his cover was blown now. Well that was one way of getting her attention he supposed. That affinity embraced him once more, Arlo teleporting back down into that alleyway to land in front of her now and a few feet away, the bright blue of his gaze meeting her own as that lopsided grin found his features again. The man looking momentarily abashed.

“Er….I mean…..sorry……but were you following me? It’s not like I mind or anything but girls don’t normally follow me, at least, they haven’t for a few years. Did you….want something? Course, if you want to just follow me you can."

She was probably just lost, knowing his luck. God he was bad at talking to girls. Where was Sebastian when he needed him?
