they said fight fire with fire but i just got ash

He had, it would seem, almost underestimated that young witch. Serafina hardly seeming afraid or disturbed by Jack’s ramblings of the end of the world and that apparent impending Armageddon. Rather, the woman appeared almost interested. Azrael hardly having expected that curiosity as she flipped through those decorated pages. It was utter nonsense, all of it, the man almost certain. The Bible had spoken of that supposed end of the world since it had been first written and even that was yet to come. If that Bible hadn’t gotten it right then the Hunter was fairly assured some lunatic suffering PTSD, anxiety and gods knows what other delusions hadn’t somehow managed to figure out the secret algorithm of the world either. Still, he supposed, there was little harm in letting Sera flick through those pages if she wanted too. The woman announcing it was written in another language, one she had failed to identify, before flicking back several pages to turn that book around to Azrael himself. The hunter looked briefly away from that road to frown at the decorated image of those four horses and their riders. Azrael scowling at that one that was so supposedly Alexander atop that white horse. He hardly disliked Alexander he supposed, in fact, his work in Siberia had been damn near respectable. No one had actually thought he would live and yet not only had that man and his horse both survived- but they’d eliminated a centuries old coven the Council had warred with for years- on their own.

He was hardly willing to let Alexander know just how much that success had both pleased and unnerved the Council all at once. Several of their members content to argue over trying to encourage Alexander back in to full time service when his ability was clearly above average, while the rest of them feared allowing the man to get any taste for those battles. His horse another problem entirely. The Council largely having hoped, if anything, that Frost would have been killed in that battle and yet that rouge War Horse was still very much alive- and using Alexander as a shield from the Council itself. The beast knowing entirely well they would hardly come for him while Alexander was in-between them. His crimes destined to go unpunished. That stallion as inclined to war as Alexander. How long would it take before the pair of them went rouge? Maybe he needed to meet with Alex sooner rather then later. Azrael shaking his head abruptly in some effort to dismiss thoughts of work from his mind. His attention returned to that road before glancing at that book again and the image of that cat outside…was that hell? Lovely. Azrael commenting on that Nightshade pack leader then, one eye lifting in slight surprise at Sera’s assurance she had met him before his eyes rolled once more at that teasing comment. The hunter scoffing lightly.

“Even I smile more than that guy. I shot him in the ass with a tranquiliser dart that time. It was the most relaxed I’ve ever seen him. At least he’s not touched in the fucking head like that friend of his though. You met that one? Really tall, black hair? I think he’s Raven’s boyfriend. How Raven even has a conversation with him I don’t know. I’ve seen the boy try and eat a rock. He’s an idiot.”

Azrael, perhaps, was not known for his glowing opinion on others. Tobias, it seemed, even less so. The blonde man scowling slightly at the mere thought of that duo of men and yet, for all their faults, the Nightshade pack was relatively peaceful. Their presence as that more dominant pack, largely, seeming to keep the majority of the cities Were population in line and for that the man supposed he was mildly…appreciative. His gaze flicking briefly back to Sera’s own then.

“You can keep the book, if you want, I won’t have much use for it.”

If she was so interested in it she might as well enjoy it. What harm could it do? It was no more than coloured pictures and words he fully suspected would be little more than nonsense even when translated. At least they could tell Jack one of them had read it. The witch closed that heavy tome a moment later, Azrael shifting gears effortlessly as they crested that hill and returned to that flat, open road, that Aston Martin truly relishing that room to run before that query of what he’d needed from Jack prompted his attention.

“Hmm? Oh, it’s a GPS, of all things. Since he retired Jack took to using what free time he had to chase wild conspiracy theories and build surveillance and tracking equipment. He built me the last hand-held GPS I had but a damn vampire broke it about a month ago. I asked him to build me another one. Most of the commercial ones can’t tolerate the speeds I run at- Jack builds ones that can.”

That mystery Serafina seemed determine to chase was, rather unfortunately for her, terribly mundane- or so it would seem in the least. That car pulling up to that park a few minutes later before Azrael shut off that engine. The man appearing near instantly beside her door to open it for her in that never failing age-old etiquette. Azrael at least offering some explanation of that event they’d arrived at. That park just about overflowing with witches and warlocks, his own senses assuring him that the vast majority of those there were the genuine thing- a few humans and other species mixed in. Those park grounds bustling with activity and stalls. His hand easily fit within her own at that unspoken request. Those public display off affection truly rare for the couple when their species and his own position on that council surely put them both at risk and yet the chance of his meeting anyone from the council here was so damn slim he was willing, for today, to simply……be as any other couple. Affording the woman those small affections he was sure she deserved even if he didn’t always know how to offer them. If anything she looked like she was interested in that event. Azrael oblivious to her concerns over dark arts. The hunter entirely inclined to find even mundane human card tricks equivocal with black magic- the man putting them all firmly beneath that category of voodoo within his mind. For today however, at least, he was so attempting to be less judgemental of that very voodoo he so often steered clear off and Serafina, he knew, made efforts not to perform in front of him. Wasn’t this the very sort of thing you did for your significant other? Took them to things they enjoyed?

That kiss against his cheek had a habit of seeing his lip quirk upward in that hint of a smile. That kiss alone almost making this outing worth it before he allowed himself to be led into that festival. Serafina seeming so….happy. The gold of his own gaze lingering on her if only because he found he almost liked seeing her that way. Those internal thoughts interrupted by the sight of a witch demonstrating those potion vials that when thrown turned into showers of butterflies. Azrael determined to remain several feet away from them even despite how harmless they appeared. The Hunter having little chance to grow anxious over them before he found himself tugged towards some sort of clothing store, his features staring blankly at those outfits he was assured belonged on the set of Harry Potter. Serafina plucking that ebony dress from that rack then- that giggle that seemed to fall from her softening his features entirely even if the idea of her dressing like a ‘real witch’ was more terrifying the he cared to admit. His fingers plucking warily at that ebony fabric.

“Well- it might be traditional but it wouldn’t do anything for your figure.”

It was, he was sure, the least figure-hugging outfit he’d seen. The man almost assured it would be almost disappointing to cover up his girlfriend’s body when it was, well, rather spectacular. Azrael considering it for several moments longer before he suddenly found that pointed hat placed atop his head. Whatever words he had so been about to offer her abruptly cut short by that declaration they could ‘go native’.

“Native? Is that code for those people who don’t wear clothes and don’t shave anything? I’m not doing that.”

This, it seemed, was his greatest fear in that singular moment. Azrael unable to decide if witches or…hippies concerned him more before Serafina was moving yet again, that dress handed to him as he followed behind her. Azrael eyeing that crystal ball then as Serafina lent over it, her finger reaching out to tap it. The Hunter far too late to stop her.

“For heaven’s sake don’t touch it! It might….do something. Oh see, look! It’s….voodooing at you now, just….step a few steps back from it or something god knows what it might do. What are those clouds?”

Azrael, it seemed, caught somewhere between fear off that object and concern for Serafina all the same as he eyed that crystal ball with a clearly dubious look. Why were those clouds only growing? Why was it changing colour? Was it supposed to do that? Azrael glancing briefly to his girlfriend again as if searching for some appropriate action to take. That witch behind the counter doing her best not to chuckle. Azrael entirely sure that humour was aimed at him.
