It was that very realization perhaps and too- that simple assurance a moment later that Sebastian had indeed crafted the piece just for him that seemed to afford that moment all the more meaning. He could feel that tightness within his chest and yet it was hardly an unpleasant feeling, more so it was that simple sensation of feeling. That singular belief that his lover had gone to such trouble for him in a way no other truly had was astounding to him and indeed so desperately meaningful. What on earth he had done to deserve the gift of a day and an evening like this in turn and so out of the blue he hardly knew and yet how wonderfully romantic it was. Those words of affection, after all, were so rarely uttered out loud by either of them. Each of them surely aware of just how the other felt, of the strength of their relationship without so having to state it. Those words, when they did come, so holding all the more meaning in turn. That simple love that existed between them displayed instead in those actions, small as some were, but each and every day they existed together. That musical piece, Dorian knew so innately, Sebastian’s way of offering but each of those emotions that words alone may hardly have done justice too. The vampires affinity for that music allowing him to feel every single one of those emotions. That knowledge that they were Sebastian’s own, that those feelings existed for him alone readily setting his own heart aflutter as his hands near faltered on that painting with the sheer strength of them.

Those notes that had started so soft and almost uncertain had so managed to find an almost passionate strength that remained the Monarch of that very first night together, one that had become near tame in comparison to all they had done since and yet such was an evening he would never forget as long as he lived. Those oranges and golds of his paint reflecting just that warmth of the evening before those notes shifted into that almost pleasant anxiousness, that wonder and mystery of sorts that came with that courtship that they had, somehow, so both fallen within even if they had hardly desired to do as such. Those evenings Dorian had so sent convincing himself the vampire surely had little desire for him outside the bedroom and too- that it was distinctly unwise to become attached to a one night stand had all been but utterly wasted. That crush having developed even despite his best efforts to prevent it, that pale pink of lust and fragile, new emotion finding its way onto that canvas before that tone shifted once more and those colours in turn. How quickly that crush, so filled with lust and passion and desire had developed into something deeper and richer. How clear those memories were to him! As if passed from Sebastian to himself in that moment. Those colours shifting to that deep blue of water trimmed in gold and all that might be tied in with it. His brush lifting to decorate those star-like patterns above. Touches of something heavenly perhaps before that sound shifted a final time. That anxiety was lost, that nervousness and insecurity that song assured then. Confident and bold and joyful. Those notes seeing that pant shift a final time into…red. A single thread of read that begun to encompass every other colour and stroke. That red beginning to near bleed across the entirety of that canvas until it existed as everything. The very colour of love that surrounded everything. Each gesture and word and feeling so underpinned by that singular emotion. Dorian assured he could feel it near surging within himself as those final notes echoed.

His own words were near stuttered in that moment if only because he was entirely assured words could not describe the beauty of that piece and all it might mean to him! His throat felt near thick as he so attempted to praise his lover for that song, Dorian wholly determined not to let such emotion best him in that moment. At least not until he had assured Sebastian off its perfection. His lovers dark gaze shifted from himself and down to that canvas in his lap now. The Monarch’s own words halted as he peered downward in some measure of curiosity perhaps, to see just what it was that held his lovers attention. That paint so appearing to near shift upon his canvas, those singular white lines so beginning to show themselves now, the hand that had crafted that script entirely well known to him. After all, he had seen Sebastian’s handwriting near countless times before and yet this was something grander, that near decorative script the very same that had once decorated that invitation so long ago. It took but a mere moment longer for those words to revel themselves in full, that white shining through that red now, that sudden, sharp intake of breath from himself surely near echoing in that moment. Dorian staring at that canvas near motionlessly, the Fae King near assured his own heart had stopped in that moment. He had hardly anticipated…..hardly considered….hardly believed that this had so been his lovers plan for tonight. So much of his obscure behaviour so making sense and yet near as suddenly as those thoughts occurred that simply seemed to cease. Every thought or worry or concern or fear somehow seeming to simply evaporate from within him to be replaced with a simple, singular and irrevocable sureness. That answer clear to him. Clearer than perhaps any decision had ever been as his gaze so finally lifted upward to meet his lovers own. That singular ‘yes’ offered with every bit of assuredness he had ever had.

That, it seemed, was but the veritable end to his restraint in any sense. That single breath of relief no sooner having left Sebastian’s lips before the Monarch near threw himself into his lovers embrace, his arms wrapping about Sebastian’s neck as he clung to him. His face pressed into his boyfriend’s neck as he struggled to blink back those tears that threatened with his gaze. The Fae King at last managing those words all the same. Assuring his lover that he had surely never even considered saying no. His entire world revolved around Sebastian and always would. Dorian willingly allowing his lover to pull him into his lap then, his arms draped about the vampires neck still as he leaned but slightly away, the back of his hand wiping almost boyishly at his eyes as he finally met his Consorts own. How long he had believed that he simply might never be married! After all, after the death of his Father that pressure had been removed, his subsequent imprisonment so assuring that he was hardly considered marriage-material. Those he had been imprisoned with his own servants and staff and indeed that veritable environment had hardly been conducive to any budding romance. Dorian simply having come to accept, so long ago, that he might eternally live his life alone. How Sebastian had changed everything! How fortunate he was in all the world to find his very soulmate and to marry that very being in turn.

That soft shrug he was presented with in response to that query merely saw his own eyes roll slightly in that good humour before promptly declaring it hardly mattered all the same. That soft laughter stirring within him before his lips pressed eagerly to his fiancés own, Dorian so seeking that further closeness and too- seeking to quell that simple desire to lavish that affection upon his companion, that simple joy so having overtaken him entirely. The man so hardly minding those extra kisses his lover stole before softly leaning away once more. That assurance Sebastian had but one more thing for him saw that look of curiosity return once more. His gaze resting then upon that black velveteen box Sebastian produced before the vampire worked to open that lid and display that ring within. Dorian assured his heart near stuttered once more at the sight of it. How lovely it was! He reached gently then to take it from his lover, his fingers brushing over the splendid gold surface, that colour he so utterly loved, before tracing over those exquisite diamonds. That brilliant warm simper decorating his features then as he turned it to eye that red thread that ran along the inside. That same thread that decorated that canvas and so eternally existed between them. Their tread.

“I adore it.”

He uttered softly, his lips pressing to Sebastian’s cheek then in that gentle affection. Dorian so considering then just what the done thing might be in this very situation. After all, women so had two rings as was tradition, that engagement and the wedding ring and yet such was hardly the case for men whom so only had those weddings rings given at that ceremony itself. There was, he suspected, little to no rules upon this very thing when it came to two men. That thoughtfulness so clearly present upon his features before that grin seemed to find him.

“Would it be terrible of me if I desired to have it now? I fear it might be rather untraditional but I rather like it and I should like to at least see how it might look.”

That near impish grin so found its way to his features then, Dorian rather assured he had no plans to actually take it off, at least not until that wedding when he might so have Sebastian give it to him again during that ceremony. The Monarch so lifting that glorious ring to that traditional finger before abruptly pausing- only to offer that ring back to his lover.

“I think perhaps that is your job, Mon Cher.”

That soft amusement echoed easily within his voice then, Dorian so holding his hand out for Sebastian himself to place that ring. The Monarch entirely unable to prevent that grin upon his features as he shifted but slightly within his lovers lap to admire that ring once more now so placed upon his own finger. That swell of emotion readily threatening to overwhelm him all over again. Dorian entirely assured he was but utterly hopeless tonight!

“I shall have one made for you too for….sooner or later.”

He offered softly, that faint chuckle humming within his throat, Dorian willingly offering his companion that same choice for just when he might like to have that wedding ring after it was made. His fingers shifted but slightly then, so testing the simple feel of that band before his gaze turned to Sebastian once more.

“How you so managed to keep all of this secret from myself I so hardly know. You did very well, love. Do all the others know? Charles and Elizabeth and Elaine and Giles? Actually, I suspect my PA did not know at all, she looked terribly flustered about such an impromptu trip but it is perhaps better you did not tell her. She might surely have spoiled that surprise even by accident.”

Emma so had a habit of scheduling everything down to the minute, the woman surely a risk of so having mentioned such a trip well before Sebastian might have desired it be known, even if only by accident and in a moment of haste. Dorian’s own features frowning but slightly then.

“Was that actually Matteo I saw near the cellar then?”

He queried, that perplexed look upon his features still. After all, there was little Matteo did not know or in the least had not seen coming. Dorian wholly assured that if Sebastian had so mentioned those plans to anyone then surely he would have done so to the French Fae. That, after all, was very much the done thing.

“Do you know what I have quite realised, Bastian?”

It was curious, perhaps, how that realisation had only really just seemed to find him in that moment. His head tilting slightly, that amusement still clear upon his features.

“We have to plan a wedding.”
