The Sun Also Rises

He could do so very little to prevent that simper from touching his features in the wake of Sebastian’s worry for those uninvited guests whom would surely line the streets come February the tenth. It was a truly endearing trait within the man, one, Dorian was assured, that must have been particularly potent even within his human days for it to persist so passionately into his immortality as it did. It was a notably human trait and while Dorian hardly thought of Sebastian as anything less than the very being he was there was still something wholly exquisite about that near natural care the man seemed to have for his fellow beings. Mortal or otherwise. The Monarch hardly choosing to point out that those beings would surely be choosing to stand there of their own free will and that surely no one was about to force their future subjects into the attendance of any such engagement if they chose to watch those proceedings from the comfort of their living rooms and those televisions. Dorian momentarily given to consider how much of that ceremony would be televised. Would it merely be that procession and arrival at the church or did some station intend to film the entirety that event? Dorian so making a mental note to find out, after all, he was rather undecided on how he felt of television cameras blocking the view of actual guests in any sense let alone the idea of potentially millions of people viewing that ceremony. Such thoughts were perhaps better left for another time. His mind returned to that more important task of selecting that date.

There was a distinct satisfaction in so finally knowing that day. A finality of sorts that seemed to result in that fluttering nervousness within him even despite how terribly excited he was all the same. He certainly held no hesitation in marrying his consort and yet the very idea of a wedding seemed so daunting when it might all be considered. How fortunate they were to have those wedding planners! Dorian assured that without them the entire affair would prove far to much for Sebastian and himself. His lovers tendency to fret over those choices till the last possible moment was a distinctly well acknowledged trait within their household and Dorian, in turn, was perhaps equally as prone to fretting when given too many choices. The Fae having stressed for several days over those meal options before that vegetarian option had been presented to him for consideration in turn. Sebastian having spent the next half an hour attempting to explain the idea of vegetarianism to the centuries old Monarch. The very idea that people wished to remove any meat from their diets was baffling to him. Vegetables were largely the food of peasants, those too poor to afford meat or to unskilled to hunt. Dorian near appalled at the idea of serving any meal that was made of those foodstuffs alone if only for how poorly it reflected upon their family and household as hosts. As if they were too poor to afford even chicken! It was ludicrous! Dorian having become so decidedly distressed over the idea that vegetarian meals had not been suggested to him since. The head wedding co-ordinator having sought out Sebastian for a decision on that meal alone.

It was with that date finally set and those assurances that the public would surely manage to be alright in that mild Naples winter that his hand extended to his lover then. Dorian entwining his fingers through Sebastian’s own before allowing himself to be led down those stairs and in to the living room. Maxwell hurrying excitedly at their heels before the Monarch saw fit to tug Sebastian down onto that couch beside him with that very intention of so finally presenting him with hat wedding ring that had taken several weeks to craft. Dorian so refusing anything less than perfection in that singular piece if only for all it signified. That flutter of nervousness so had a habit of finding him all the same in those moments as that little box was finally produced. Dorian lifting that lid to display that white gold and traditional gold ring to his consort then. Those hand crafted patterns adorning it’s exterior and those neatly printed words, carved in flowing script that beset the inside. Such an addition his own attempt, perhaps, to match the conclusion of that red thread that wound its way through his own as a near constant reminder of that significance and simple perfection of what they shared. That one night stand that had become so very much more than either had ever anticipated. Dorian gently handing that ring to his fiancé then to allow him to examine it properly. That utterance that it was beautiful bringing that warm simper to his lips with that simple relief that his lover approved of it. How important it was for Sebastian to like it!

The vampires assurance that he could never forget his love for him, even despite its very inscription several times over within that ring, only further seemed to brighten that grin upon his features, Dorian leaning forward to steal but another gentle kiss from the man then. That sweet affection only further adding to that intimate moment. The Monarch leaning away only at that mention of a job he need undertake. His hand reached easily for Sebastian’s own then. That first ring gently removed and replaced upon his right hand before that wedding band was slipped neatly into place on that finger it assuredly belonged. Dorian quite unable to help that near possessive satisfaction he took from the sight of it. The Fae commenting upon how well marriage surely suited him only to be met with that soft chuckle, that amusement tugging at his own features then.

“I should hope so.”

He offered near teasingly in return, Dorian content to lean into the vampire then as Sebastian reached for his hand, letting their fingers entwine. Dorian’s own silver gaze drawn downward to eye those rings now nestles together with the gesture. How much he looked forward to that ceremony that would make such a thing all the more official and so allow him to call Sebastian his husband. A word with far more significance then boyfriend or even fiancé held. It was that very thought of just that however that perhaps prompted those further considerations within the man. A final decision still to be made on but one issue of their uniting houses. That idea of a last name. Dorian having spent several weeks considering it and- in turn- consulting his parliament upon what his obligation was, in that sense, to his own last name. A royal house, he had been assured, did not discard its royal name. That having prompted the Monarch to consider several other ideas. His hand resting on his lovers knee then if only to garner his attention and prompt that discussion. One they had both put off he was sure.

He was hardly surprised in any sense to hear that soft sigh fall from his Consorts lips, nor that notion that he had, indeed, been given to consider it and yet- this time- Dorian was content to offer his own ideas. Perhaps before that worry could seize Sebastian too entirely. That nervousness tugging at his own words as he offered that combination of last names. Ellington Brownlow-Cust Aragona was decidedly lengthy and yet in comparison to their other titles it would surely make little difference. Such a name would rarely been in use all the same, any non-official engagements or introductions could surely seem them merely afforded that styling off Ellington-Aragona. Couples so often combined their last names, surely they were permitted to do the same. After all, he was not permitted to remove Aragona and Dorian knew readily the importance of Sebastian’s own name to him. The Monarch assured of that solution- the man hardly having anticipated that response. Dorian blinking near blankly a moment. That simper at last finding his lips but a few seconds later.

“Bastian, there is very little in this world I would not do for you.”

He assured softly. How baffling a creature Sebastian was at times! Surely he knew, by now, that in all that world there was near nothing Dorian would not do for him in any sense. The Monarch having little doubt that Sebastian would offer him the same in turn. His head shaking softly in the simple disbelief of it and yet that query perhaps so required further explanation all the same. A part of the man still fearing his lover might dislike that combination of names entirely. His gaze lifted to the man’s own once more.

“I cannot remove my own name entirely but there is no law to prevent my adding to it in any sense and- perhaps we are both men- but I see little reason why we need forgo that tradition of changing our names as a more traditional couple might.”

Was it terribly wrong to observe at least some of those more classic marital traditions? That formation of a new family so often came with a new name in one way or another, the Monarch willing to observe such a tradition so provided Sebastian desired to in turn. That slight nervousness finding him once more as he continued then and yet why at all he should feel but even slightly self-conscious before Sebastian in that admittance that was about to come he hardly knew.

“I have also found that I….rather like the idea of taking your name and I suppose truly that is the real reason. I want too- it is quite as simple as that.”

He paused then, that warm grin touching his features with that soft admittance that, in truth, he simply desired to take Sebastian’s name because he rather liked the idea of it and all it represented. This something he was wholly willing to do for both Sebastian and himself.

“I rather hoped you would not mind taking mine in turn or that you might be willing to consider it. Our marriage will make you the Prince of Italy and that royal name is yours by right to have in turn. I quite meant it that evening in France when I suggested I should like our getting married to be about adding things, not taking them away and so I thought, perhaps, we need not take away anything at all but merely combine our names to make a new one.”
