    Hawethorn Village

However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three story townhouses, often with a one to two car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces.

Baffling. That was the word Navi would use to describe her encounters with Andras. She had never met anyone like him before. Never. He was an oddball, switching from statuesque habitual gestures to the brief teasing and winking at Navi. As entertaining and fascinating the odd faerie was to Navi, she couldn’t help but feel a bit tired with her encounter. Partially because she was trying her best to read him and his quirky emotions (or lack thereof). Furthermore, she hadn’t had contact with someone in what was truly decades. Trekking behind him as they stroll down the concrete pathway through the residencies, she listened to him describe how a faerie can train themselves to tolerate as much of the effect of iron if they expose themselves to it with difficult practice. Andras was quick to offer to train Navi but, he warned her that it’s not an easy feat. Chuckling, Navi cheekily replied, “I don’t think you would have mentioned it if I wasn’t able to handle it, yes?” She then continued to squint her eyes at all the neighborhood’s fluorescent lights looming above them.

“I am more comfortable than you might think with harsh conditions,” she added in, as her voice seemed to trail down the sidewalk. She watched Andras as he rummaged around his pockets to find a key for the house they found themselves standing in front of. It seemed to be a modest home with exterior paint lightly peeling off the sides in spirals that made it look like it hadn’t been lived in for a few years. As he motions her in, she hesitates for a moment, trying to take in everything that just happened in this brief encounter with what seemed to be a stranger only 3 hours ago. She couldn't help but jump a bit when Andras shut the door and locked the deadbolt behind their entrance inside. She had never been in a house alone with a man but, before she let herself get embarrassed by such a trivial thought, she was taken aback by the inside of the home. Even though the outside looked a bit shabby, the inside was tidy and warm, which was something Navi hadn’t the luxury of having in a very long time. Her mouth gaped open a bit and was led by a childish grin. It was like the smile of a kid who was opening their first Christmas present. Any amount of sluggishness she had before evaporated the more thoroughly she examined the house.

Before Andras could explain anything to her about the home, she found herself dashing from room to room, inspecting every nook and cranny the house had. Tinkering with every fascinating common household objects she sees, Andras motions to her at the top of the stairs to follow him. In pursuit of discovery, she found there was not only the first floor but, a kitchen, a living room, and a giant additional bedroom. The layout and design of the house was all so foreign to her. “Who needs all this space?” she inquired distractedly as she clicked the lamp in the living room on and off continuously. After the enthralling tour of the home, she observed Andras plop himself down on the couch and ask her if she had any questions. She peered at Andras, knowing very well he was poking fun at her. “I know I ask a lot of things, but one cannot gain knowledge if they do not question,” she pointed her finger in the air and nodded as if she were agreeing with herself. “By the way, are these what all houses look like in modern times?” yet again, asking whatever she pleased. “What are you sitting on?” firing off another question at Andras.

Navi could vaguely remember what her childhood home had been like. It was full of paper screen doors, tatami floors, mattresses without bedframes and low sitting tables. Nothing that compared to the home she was standing in. Trying to act like Andras she flopped down right next to him and a look of horror shot across her face. With how tiny she was, the moment she flung herself onto the couch she found her butt sinking in between the cushions. It looked as though the couch was eating her alive. She instinctively grabbed onto Andras and pulled herself out of the awful couch and exclaimed, “What is that?!?”. Regaining composure, she kneeled on the floor and proceeded to sit as still as a statue with her eyes closed, flustered by her inability to understand these modern interior concepts. “I don’t like this,” she remarked, lifting herself up from her kneel and waltzing off into the bedroom. “Fwoosh!,” the covers of the bed being ripped off could be heard all throughout the town house. There was complete silence for a good minute until Navi marched into the living room, dragging closely behind her the pile of sheets that were on the bed moments ago. Fluffing out the blankets she made her bed on the living room floor, paying no mind to Andras. “I will be sleeping here tonight,” Navi announced with pride. Shuffling into her makeshift bed she looks to Andras and asks, “What is it?”.
