Not everyone shared the same beliefs, that was a simple and well-known fact which the honey-blonde woman was more than accepting towards. Some were close-minded, thinking that what they believed in was the one and only truth, but when it came to the greater forces of the universe, how could anyone truly be sure that there were not more than one things at work that made this world what it was? After all, while she and her brother had grown up in a world where supernatural beings very much existed, there were still so many others out there that refused to believe in witches and were-creatures, in the immortal and the magical. This puzzled the younger woman a little, especially when it seemed that not only did so many seem to deny that such things were part of this reality all living things shared but they were sometimes so very hostile towards that which they didn’t even begin to try understanding. She understood what it was that her own kind was meant for, fully aware that dark hunters were the checks and balances of those supernatural forces, keeping the balance between mortal and immortal, though for obvious reasons, she herself was perhaps that black sheep in the herd who refused to have any part to do with ending a life that was not her own. That did not mean that she recognized the importance of what The Darays have done for so many generations, more than she could even manage to remember really. But to think that there were humans out there that simply did not want to believe in fae folk, undead, or mythical beings, it left her mind-boggled and uncertain yet still she refused to press anyone into believing what they didn’t wish to face. It wasn’t her place to tell others how they should live.

Elain wonders what it was that her newfound companion believed in, and though her comment had been more intended for the purposes of humor, the white-haired woman is quick to dismiss the comment that she’d made and it only makes the younger woman wonder about Vhalla. All that mattered to her though was that faint little smile that dances across the beautiful face of her friend and so she is content to dismiss that curious thought as well. She was simply happy that the white-haired woman seemed happier than she’d been when they’d first met. Perhaps that was simply because her headache was gone now, who really knew other than the older woman, though? She begins to hum happily as she tends to the chicken, trimming off unsightly bits and pieces just because she wanted to, considering perhaps boiling any extra meat and feeding it to the stray cats that often ended up on their doorstep thanks to Elain’s loving nature that couldn’t stand to see anyone without a home or full belly. Lazarus of course wasn’t keen on the fact that whenever he went to leave the house or return home from whatever it was that Lazarus was busying himself with, there would always be a feline or two sitting there waiting patiently for the young woman to feed them, but as with most things that Elain was adamant on, she simply told him to stop being a grumpy old man and accept that they weren’t hurting him by coming by for dinner every other night or so.”As long as they stay outside, I guess I don’t care. But so help me, if I find one in here even just one time, I’m gonna flip”, he’d said once to the young woman. She’d rolled her eyes then, but seeing that he was serious she’d been content enough to agree to that condition. Besides, she would just make them little cubbies outside if she felt like they were getting too cold.

Vhalla murmurs her condolences to the honey-blonde about the loss of her parents, and for a moment Elain would swear that there was more than simple remorse laced through the syllables that feel softly from the older woman’s lips, but she was wouldn’t press things – not yet anyway. There would be time to talk more once dinner was cooking. So, she simply offers Vhalla a gentle smile despite the sadness that glitters in her glacier blue depths.”Thank you for your kind words. It’s been pretty rough this past year… Sometimes I think that my brother is the one that was affected the most by what happened”, she replies quietly as she continued with the seasoning and the trimming before finally taking the cuts of meat and begins chopping them into smaller pieces and placing them into the glass baking dish. The peace that seemed to be forming between the two women is shattered though when her brother enters into the room and sees the white-haired woman then. Suddenly there is a hostility in the air that surprises the younger woman as she moves to stand beside her newest friend as Vhalla gives her a brief reply, a smile upon those plush lips before bright blues are cast back to the enraged man. She clearly seemed amused with the current situation, that much Elain could see. When Lazarus comes closer, pointing a finger at the woman only to call her a witch, which of course Elain was only mildly surprised at but she also hadn’t begun to try figuring out that part of the older woman yet though now she didn’t need to now, Vhalla reaches out and grabs that finger, jerking it and with that motion causes Lazarus to stumble, dark forest gaze glowing even fiercer now. It was hard for Elain not to laugh as she watched her brother act like a buffoon, but she refrains though the amusement in Vhalla’s innocent batting of those thick lashes almost makes it impossible not to smile. The white-haired woman finds pure amusement in how Elain scolds the angry man, though at that point, Elain was more focused on making sure he checked his temper before she moved away, not that she was worried he might do anything. When Vhalla greets the man by the nickname he so hated, Elain has to cover her lips to hide the smile and bubbling laughter that wanted to force its way past her lips. She almost felt sorry for Lazarus. Almost.

The white-haired woman turns to Elain when Lazarus nearly stomps over to the chair and flops down furiously, stating that she would leave if Elain wanted to. Icy blues widen in surprise before she waves away the woman’s words.”Don’t be silly! He’s always like this when he’s broody. It’s about time he met someone who wouldn’t take his crap other than Donovan and I”, she assured her friend, moving back over to place all the prepped ingredients into the dish before opening the oven and sliding it onto the middle rack. When she looks back up, Vhalla is now comfortably leaned over the counter, those satin words clearly intended to continue prodding at the already furious man and while perhaps any other sister might have jumped to her brother’s defense, Ellie knew that Lazarus could handle himself just fine, just as Vhalla seemed to be able to handle him which did surprise the younger woman a little. It wasn’t often that they ran into people that were as tolerant of the man’s ill temper, and it was even more intriguing still how the older woman laughs in amusement, those bright blue eyes suggesting that she was enjoying herself quite well. Who was Elain to stop their guest from entertaining herself however she desired? She cannot stifle the light and airy giggle that tumbles over her lips at the older woman’s offer to teach Lazarus self-defense. That was bound to get quite the reaction from the grumpy dark hunter in the corner seated as far away from the women as he possibly could. When Vhalla turns to Elain, she laughing brightly at her words.”He’s not usually this moody, but it would seem you’ve wounded his pride a little”, she comments with amusement in her own voice.”As much of an ass as he can be, he’s my brother and I love him. I guess I’m genetically obligated to”, she teases as she casts as an impish glance to the man in the corner who now has decided that he’d rather just turn on the television and try to drain them out. She expected as much, though.
