i'm not ashamed of my scars, i'm ashamed of the world for not understanding.

As a child she read the different fairy tales that spoke of various Kings and Queens in faraway places. Those of noble blood looked down upon those that were imperfect or hideous monsters. The she-wolf never saw herself as the Princess or damsel in distress in those books that was recused by the Prince or Knight. The only characters she felt like her those evil monsters that lurked within the shadows bringing doom and despair to all. At night when she cried herself to sleep she would have nightmares, being the scary monster in those books, crying out as she was vanquished. Fairy Tales were supposed to bring happiness and hope to children. Although those childish stories gave her the freedom to ‘disappear’ from her cage, they also fed into her increasing lowered self-confidence. If someone told the young pup that she would be having tea with the King of Italy she would have dreamt up the King of Italy dunking her into some oversized tea cup, drowning her. Sitting here on the comfortable leather couch beside the Fae King seemed surreal. They were friends. Oh if her pack only knew that she was rubbing elbows with someone like him, they would be rolling in their graves. Sadly though the lupine was caught off guard when she was being served her tea. She had no idea how to respond, never before being served before in a manner like this. Unable to make her own tea and seeing the worried and confused look on both the woman’s and Dorian’s face she hesitantly took the gold tea cup and saucer, terrified that she would accidentally break something of solid gold. Holding onto the cup, as if holding onto her life, she inquired about the mob of people hounding at his gates.

“You cannot apologize for another’s actions, it’s okay. Can there not be a new law passed where they cannot bother you. Diplomatic privilege or something? Why do you think they’ll die down in February?”

He may not be the King of this country, but surely he could be treated far better. The she-wolf wasn’t concerned about having her face plastered on those gossip magazines. No photo editor would dare want her scarred face to appear everywhere. What worried her was if their presence followed her back to the Ark. It wasn’t that they were a secretive group, but they were a pack that come to themselves. The last thing she needed was some random person coming into the Ark and taking photos of the Weres within the fighting ring or her mate chasing one of them down the alleyway with the beaten up old toaster named ‘Steve’ trailing behind him. No, it was best that their lives were not entombed in those glossy magazine pages or shown as replays on the trashy TV shows. The questions they gave her were questions she couldn’t even answer or even phantom on how to respond. The suggestion of going a longer route home was met with a small nod, as she eyed her golden tea cup. Switching the conversation to gratitude for his exquisite drawing in her special book, and apologizes for how he approached him, she grinned eagerly nodding her head.

“Yes, I thought the book was a wonderful idea!”

Her dial would tilt when she heard him describe her mate as clever. No one had described him like this. For a moment a tiny simper crawled along her pink lips, the woman appreciating his kind description of the man. Someone else could see what she saw. That her deviant spotted companion was not some hopeless cause or demented soul that couldn’t possibly function. Her Tobias was simply unique and vastly different from any other being that walked this Earth, and in her opinion, no other soul would come close to be liking his. The small simper turned into a wide grin as she nodded slowly. Her cheeks flushed a pale pink as she muttered shyly.

“He-he is quite clever...I am so happy you see that. I’m afraid many see him as an idiot or a nuisance, but he really isn’t any of those things. Things occurred in his past that made him this way. He is capable of using his words though! My mate...you see there are two sides of him, think of it like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It occurs every once in a while, but there are times when my mate appears normal.”

She never told anyone about his other side, that side that rarely got to come out. The woman loved him even before she met his other half, the one that should have been. Was it even possible that his sane half would have fallen in love with her, or accepted for her as she was, when he could have easily gone after any other girl. Taking a sip of her tea she used her other hand to gently stroke the back of Max’s ear, finding his presence oddly comforting.

“Thank You, we took engagement photos I must show you! The night before he was in a terrible mood, and I assumed it was something I did, but I couldn’t figure out what. So, the next morning I see he’s awake and he pulls the book over and he lets me read what everyone wrote or drew. At the end of the book he reads aloud his proposal he wrote, and I eagerly wrote my reply underneath it, and read it aloud to him. He then stood on one foot and leaned in close, and presented the ring. I know he tries to be normal and like everyone else, but it all was perfect just so, he did it all himself.”

Closing her eyes the young she-wolf would share the memory of her engagement with her fae friend, quite content to show him all that occurred. From the moment she woke up, to her mate presenting her the book, to the proposal, and then to the presentation of the ring. Reopening her eyes, satisfied of sharing her memory, she began to shift the focus elsewhere. Using her telekinesis Raven placed the golden tea cup and saucer, to hover beside her as she extended her hand for the Fae King to see the ring, as her other hand grabbed the phone from her pocket, eagerly opening up the album of their engagement photos.
