Arlo James

See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch

Those soft, whimpering sounds from the little Panda within his arms were like...knives in his heart. He couldn’t stand to hear them! God, she was hurt and bleeding and hurt and….he had to fix it by any means he knew how. He couldn’t let her be hurt. Not in any fashion. The rest of the world all but evaporating in those moments as his mind fixated only on that little animal. He was, possibly, overreacting- he knew it and yet those...emotions were all consuming, roaring through him so potently and thickly he barely knew where one ended and another started. That possessiveness and protectiveness flaring violently within him as he held her close. Arlo ignoring her own weak struggles and clear reluctance to give him her paw as he seated himself on that sofa. He was aware, vaguely, of Mi’s approach from behind. That fear in his Little Bear readily felt by that decidedly animalistic part of himself, Arlo reacting entirely without thought. That hiss spat from his lips like a feral animal at his unfortunate roomate. That threat blatantly clear and an effort to warn her away. He didn’t mean it, not really, he wasn’t like that and yet more and more when it came to Abby he found himself becoming so...instinctive. Those emotions so much stronger when it came to her. All those years he’d made fun of other vampires for those poor temperaments and possessive natures and yet he understood, god, he understood to well. The idea of anything coming near his Panda, even Mi, more than he could take. Especially when she was in this condition. The scent of that blood making it all the worse.

That apology fell from his lips almost just as fast, that colour returned to his eyes as that humanity quickly found its way back and yet he could smell that fear on Mi. He could hear her heart racing within her chest as she stumbled back and over that chair. His blue gaze lingering on her a few moments as that guilt coiled within him and yet he needed to fix Abby first. He needed to make this right. God he couldn’t take those whimpers and those sad eyes. How the hell had this happened? Maybe it didn’t matter, at least not for this moment. His grip upon her leg was gentle but firm all the same, Arlo arefully spreading that paw before grasping that glass, the man swiftly and efficiently removing it before immediately lifting that paw to his lips. He could hardly help that sound of pleasure that came from that taste. His tongue swept across that wound, encouraging it to clot and close. Arlo ignoring Mi’s protests and clear shock as he lifted his thumb to his right fang, piercing that skin until the blood welled to the surface before carefully massaging it into that wound in turn. That healing more than doubled in that moment. Abby sure to be right in a matter of moments. Arlo almost assured he could breathe again, almost. His Little Bear tucked her paw back beneath her, her body curled into a cat-like ball on his lap. That lack of her usual happy, excitable nature almost taunting him and yet surely she just needed an hour or so right? She’d be good as new any minute now. What if she didn’t want to come back? God, how had it even happened?

His fingers stroked through that thick red fur all the same, each movement careful and gentle. The vampire distinctly caring in every movement, his eyes hardly daring to look away from her even as he struggled to push those instincts to protect downward. At least enough to turn his attention to Mi. His hand resting in Abby’s fur still in that subtle protective gesture. Arlo only now seeming to register those word’s Mi had offered. His head shaking.

“Nah, I’m not alive so i can’t actually catch anything. Don’t worry, besides, my saliva clots wounds and my blood heals. That should fix her paw.”

That lopsided grin found his features then, shaky though it was. Mi still standing behind that chair she had fallen over as if fearing he might lunge at her or something. Shit. Had he scared her that badly? He hadn't even meant to do it! Had he hissed at her? Was that a normal vampire sound? Great. He was a cat. His apology hardly seemed to have been accepted, at least not exactly and yet really Mi did tend to have kinda a weird attitude about things. Hell, if he apologised to her for everything he did that bothered her it would be the only conversation they ever had. Sure they go on but they were...pretty different people. Their arguments over what counted as a meal and why it wasn’t ok to hang socks in the kitchen to dry and why boxes weren’t furniture having been heard by most of the building. Still, for now, he hardly pushed her. Arlo willing to admit the snarling had been….out of line on his part. The man still shocked at himself.

The sudden query of just who Abby was however saw the vampire frown. Had di Mi not know? He’d talked about Abby before, he’d shown her pictures, maybe he hadn’t said her name but he hadn’t known it until just recently. Mi’s words echoing once more as Arlo’s gaze continued to rove over that room and that mess. Mi’s assurance that this was the ‘wild animal’ from the photos seeing his own gaze narrow before glancing from Abby to that broom and that room all over again. The very realisation of exactly what had happened here seeming to dawn on him then. That….anger flaring so hot it nearly burned. Arlo’s fingers gripping that sofa so hard he near punctured it. Abby seated within his lap the only thing so saving Mi from being near flown at in that moment. His own voice sharp then.

“You chased her!? You attacked her with that fucking broom, didn’t you? Didn't you!?. God damnnit Mi!”

One hand readily formed a fist, slamming down on that arm of the chair as his other gently lifted Abby from his lap to place her carefully on that sofa and safe from harm. Arlo struggling, desperately to contain himself then. Humanity and vampirism warring strongly then. Arlo strode abruptly and suddenly forward, that broom snatched out of Mi’s hand with inhuman speed before Arlo abruptly cracked it down over his knee, snapping it in half. The broken pieces tossed behind him into that shambles off a room.

“I don’t give a damn what you think of her being inside. She is my friend and you injured her! I can’t…..I can’t handle her being injured ok!? You’ve damn well lost your sweeping privileges for year and if you ever come at her with a broom again I swear to god I…..I just….I won’t be happy about it ok?”

One hand ran through his hair then, his own breathing heavy. Arlo fighting for that control and yet, for now, that humanity was at least willing. Silence prevailing for several moments before at last he managed those softer words as he looked toward Mi. Arlo sighing.

“She is a Were, Mi. That means she is a human, a person, who turns into an animal. You just hit another woman with a broom. Your not hurt to are you?"
