I'm Not Waiting On Happily Ever After12.216.225.10Posted On December 07, 2017 at 3:11 PM by Adelaide Claire LaBelle

i'm the hero of my own story, don't need a knight in shining armor

Last night, as unexpected and certainly unpleasant as it had been within the first few moments after the sun had sunk behind the horizon when that filthy drunk had manhandled her, there wasn’t the smallest prick of disappointment or distaste that it had all happened. She was nearly tempted to send a wordless thanks to the letter that Townsend had announced the arrival of and the contents within that handwritten reminder of who it was that she couldn’t stand. Almost. She refused to think about the fact that the wretched nobleman was insistent on keeping tabs on the French woman that now lived overseas with that very intention to place as much distance between herself and her father as she could manage, if anything only feeling a tinge of guilt with how she’d worried the Englishman who only ever had Adelaide’s best interests in mind at all times. Sometimes she wondered how it was that he could hardly fret over himself and yet he would always be there fussing over her. Nearly to the point that the fiery young woman had to practically bat him away as she demanded to do something on her own. The disagreements between the pair never came even remotely close to malicious words or physical altercation, if anything they were just two stubborn people that tended to have a mind of their own; one of them determined to ensure that Adelaide was taken care of, and the other adamant not to have the man do every little thing for her. While there may be moments perhaps where the two would get frustrated with one another, there was only ever affection beneath those stern looks and even more stern words. And how he had given her quite the talking to after Taylor left, just as she entirely expected him to.”Miss LaBelle, I really must insist that you put this… Taylor fellow behind you. Give him a job for a day and send him off on his way”, Townsend had insisted when they’d walked back up the stairs to their respective rooms.”Oh Townsend, just give him a chance, won’t you? If anything, you should be thanking him for returning me. That drunkard at the burlesque had been all over me until Taylor dispatched him”, the young woman had replied almost nonchalantly, as though the entire ordeal was no trouble at all. She’d hoped that he would simply leave it be after that.

But the look of horror that the Englishman had given her was enough to tell her that she’d probably told him too much.”Please tell me that I did not just hear any of that?!”, he’d exclaimed then as they moved into her bedroom. She’d hadn’t been able to help the amused smile that found her lips as she gave a gentle roll of almond eyes as an exasperated sigh escaped her.”I’m afraid you did, Townsend. No reason to worry over it now. I have good feelings about him. Besides, don’t act like you’ve never been a part of such things, or worse, when you were younger”, she’d reminded him, but it only caused him to faulted briefly.”That’s not the point, Miss. The point is that one act of valor does not make you indebted to offer him a job”, the blonde man had said pointedly and again Adelaide can’t help but sigh.”I couldn’t very well not. He needs it, Townsend. He’s just as new to Sacrosanct as we are. For goodness sake, he’s staying in a motel. Now, if you don’t mind, I’ve had a long night and I would like to get some rest”, she counters, her lilted tones a clear indication that she was done talking about her decision to employ Taylor. Townsend would just need to learn to cope. She wasn’t normally so short with the man, but there was nothing more to discuss on the matter and she certainly wasn’t going to be changing her mind about Taylor. Especially for reasons that she decided were best not to tell Townsend, lest he decide there was a more serious matter that would need discussing. He hesitated for a moment then, but it was clear that he had seen the fire in those sage eyes that did not waver or so much as blink as she prepared to close those dual doors.”Very well, Miss. I shall see you in the morrow”, he says with refined tones communicating that while he was far from pleased about the situation, he also knew there was no arguing at this point. He dips his head to the young woman then and she retreats to her bed. Falling asleep had proven to be a bit of a challenge then as she thought of the man that so captured her.

When morning came, the very first faint traces of the lightening sky leaking through those fine linen curtains, she’d blinked away the sleep and, after a good stretch, was quick to rise from her bed and move towards the restroom. Showered, hair dried and styled in its natural wavy disposition, she moves to her large walk-in closet and selects an emerald green silken blouse and fitted faded blue jeans. Dressing quickly, she then moves to her bedroom door, greeted then Rose and Reginald who had been waiting patiently for her to emerge as they always tended to. Descending gracefully down those stairs, she walks contentedly down the hallway and into the kitchen. She knew that she’d asked for Taylor to be here rather early, and she wanted to ensure that she could accommodate him if he was an avid coffee drinker like herself. The sounds of the French woman rummaging through those stocked and organized cupboards rouses the Englishman who appears in the kitchen, likely having been up for a time now and tending to whatever he did in that study to the right of the front door.”Shall I prepare the coffee, Miss?”, he inquires. She gestures with a wave of her hand as she finishes placing the grounds in the compartment they belonged in.”For heaven sake, Townsend, I can make coffee without supervision. Why don’t you go and pick up the mail from the post office, maybe see about finding a bakery that has some freshly made sweets for dessert tonight?”, she suggests to the Englishman, turning to give him a playful look though there is that fire ever present in those sage eyes implying that she was not about to have him baby her. He only eyes her for a moment as though he wanted to say something, but he seems to decide against it thankfully.”Of course, Miss. I won’t be long. I just hope that the yard is not entirely destroyed by the time I return”, he agrees at first, though the last string of words are muttered to show that he truly was not ecstatic about the tasks Adelaide had assigned him, causing the French woman to roll her eyes then. Grabbing a jacket hanging beside the garage door, he disappears and she can hear the sound of that garage door opening and the Peugeot starting up. Moments later, the loud clacking of the door closing is heard and the revving of the car becomes distant. She breaths a contented sigh for some peace and quiet, as much as she adored the man, sometimes she just needed some time to do things on her own.

Gurgling from the brewing station announces that the coffee was finished brewing, the rich aroma filling the large home. She began gathering things for a skillet like an assortment of vegetables and cheeses, only just having retrieved all her desired ingredients when the loud roar of that Harley she already recognizes softens to a gradual growl before growing silent altogether. Rose and Reginal are lounging beside the fireplace that crackles with life to warm the room, but they assume a sitting position when the doorbell rings. There is a soft growl from Rose, but Reginal simply sits in attentive silence with his handsome head turned in the direction of the door.”Stay”, she commands them before abandoning the splayed out vegetables, cheeses, eggs, and milk on the granite countertop, moving to the front door with a gentle smile dancing across her lips as she feels excitement rising to those sage eyes that are now glittering. Who else would it be other than Taylor? Slender hands reach for that door and she opens it to find the very man she expected.”Good morning, mon cher. You’re early for your shift. I’m sure Townsend will appreciate such work ethics. Please, come in”, she speaks warmly in those accented and lilted lyrics, opening the door further so that he can move into the main entryway. She closes the door behind him, and as she moves to walk past him and down the hallway, she runs her soft hands down and along the hardened muscle and tendon of his forearm, sage eyes glancing down to the wounds that were thankfully not red and angry with infection.”You look like you’ll be in fine working condition for today’s work”, she smiles up to him as sage gaze eyes glittering almost boldly as they lock for a moment with Taylor’s hunter green gaze before turning to walk down the hallway towards the kitchen, turning to look over her shoulder to ensure that he was following her to the place that they’d sat just last night, long and flowing locks of dark cocoa cascading down to the small of her back and over slender shoulders.”Townsend should be back soon enough, I sent him away to get a few things, though I’ll be sure to mention you were fifteen minutes early. That should win him over a little. He can be a bit critical of new faces at times”, she goes on to explain as she begins to crack the eggs on the side of that glass mixing bowl.”I was just making coffee and breakfast, would you like a meal before you begin your work? I can’t guarantee when lunch might be”, she teases gently though she does not look up from the task at hand. Reginald happily rises at the sight of Taylor, arched tail wagging slowly as he bumped his nose against the man’s hand, though Rose remains sitting beside the fireplace, ever watchful and wary as ever, clearly still questioning the trustworthiness of the man in her mistress’s presence.
