God I Want to Dream Again

North

I normally don't spend my time on this side of town. There really isn't a point. I mean this is where those in high places like to spend their time. A place where someone with the right amount of cash can change everything they hate about themselves and become something they always dreamed of. If my life didn't turn into a complete tailspin I might have been living on this side of town, actually doing something with my life. I'd be like the other girls my age, walking along the pristine sidewalks with my hands holding onto colored bags that held my expensive clothes. I would be surrounded by my friends, wearing the latest clothing trend that would surely go out of style the moment the first leaf falls for autumn. Listening to them share the latest gossip about some boy, or some other girl, or whatever stupid thing that was important to us at the time. But of course that wasn't meant to be. Instead I work at a coffee shop and spend some time helping at the stables, making an all right figure, nothing to be proud about, nothing that could get me close to buying the fancy things sitting within the windows of these boutique shops. Of course I never really cared for those frivolous things. None of that mattered. It did once when I was younger and naïve, and stupid.

I'm only on this part of town, because I am here to splurge myself with a really good meal. I don't do it often, but I normally do it when I believe I deserve a treat. And quite frankly I believe I deserve a treat. Some would consider eating alone to be quite pathetic. I don't see it as that. I'm alone most of the time, all the time, and I do things on my own. I don't need anyone and no one ever needed me. Would I like some company? Of course I would! What normal human being that was capable of turning into a massive creature that demanded social interaction, wouldn't want to be around others? It's difficult you know, being alone all the time. But I don't let that get to me. I can't really afford to. If I do, I get all sad and angry and no one that even had an ounce of wanting to be near me, would want to if I was just a ball of mess. I'm nearing my favorite restaurant. All I have to do is just cross the street, turn the corner, and then I'll be able to start on that delicious appetizer in no time! Oh my goodness there are too many people here. Standing like sardines with everyone else, I'm waiting for the light to turn when I hear a shout. I'm pretty sure that was my name, I mean no one else that I know of has that name Although I'm not sure who would be shouting my name. I don't have friends.

Turning my head around I notice some male taking a step into the road, ignoring the sign stating he cannot walk. With a gasp my eyes widen as I see a yellow taxi crab smash into him, as he bounced off the car, leaving a massive dent. It is natural as a woman I should be quite concerned. Although I really shouldn't be too concerned, because I don't know him, and what complete idiot would walk right into the street. While everyone else was panicking and shrieking, I ran right on over, because I noticed the cars all stopped. Heading over I managed to kneel down looking over the poor sap, grabbing his arms and legs to check for anything broken. There is a man beside me going on and on about how the guy has no heartbeat I take another look and notice that he is a bit paler than most humans, and that stench I'm pretty sure there is no need for me to check his limbs anymore. Looking over at the car and seeing the massive indent it's quite obvious to see, that this fool is a vampire. One that I hardly recognize. Now I can't have people think he is dead, because then it would be really awkward if he got up and moved around. They'll think he's a zombie. Quickly, I lay my head on his chest over where his heart should be, pretending to hear a heartbeat. With everyone starting to talk about what next steps to take, I speak up.

"Yea, he has a heartbeat, I don't think you had your head in the right spot. Call the ambulance? I don't know...he might not be able to afford a $1,000 ride unless you want to pay that for him. Oh look there he goes, he's waking up. Hey there buddy..."

I saw that last part quite sweetly. You know my tone holding such care. I lean over and whisper in his ear, and my tone changes quite quickly. No longer does it sound gentle and sweet. Rather it sounds cold, as I whisper harshly to him, while the crowd watches.

"Get off your ass, and start walking...or would you like everyone to know what you are?"

Grabbing his hands I help him up off his feet. Easing him onto his feet while the crowd cheers and claps, I lean into him, allowing him to at least lean on me for support. Wrapping my arms around his waist to keep him hoisted upwards. I can't have him falling down. And honestly we can't really stay here. While everyone is watching in awe, praising how good they did or praising some Deity, I'm trying to get this damn fool out of the street, and somewhere safer, because God knows he shouldn't be doing something to make his species sighted or aware by humans. Nodding my head I speak up we stumble down the street together.

"Look at that, it's a miracle. Come on you, let's go."
