He was definitely surprised by Andras' statement that he was the darkness. That wasn't a statement taken lightly in the Fae world. There was a fine line between the light and the dark in their culture but you couldn't very well walk that line. Youhad to choose, one way or another. It was all too easy for Troy to choose the light. After all, his family grew up fighting the darkness and those who supported it. Troy just fell in line like the good soldier he was, taught and trained by his father and he fought side by side with his brother Sam for years before they both abandoned him. His brow arched when Andras said that the rituals would not be tolerated. Well, at least that was something. He noded in agreement. "Good to know." Troy caught the quick flash of something like pain in Andras' eyes as he asked how it worked out for him and he had to remind himself that Andras watched his court die off around him. But he claimed that this time would be different and Troy had to know for sure. For Amelia's sake. For the child's sake. Then Andras informed him that the attack was made from the inside and that they suffered a similar fate. Troy tilted his head thoughtfully. "Then I hope you plan to be more picky this go around with those who follow you." He raised a brow expectantly. When he asked if Andras was masking the court as a power, Andras gave him a short answer, but it was satisfactory. Troy could tell he was trying to protect secrets because Troy wasn't a member, at least not yet. He could understand that hesitancy, especially if Andras felt the last attack came from within. He could also see Andras' curiosity when he said he had special circumstances. He was sure nothing could prepare someone to hear what he was about to say so he leaned in, thankful that Andras did the same. When he told him, he could see the shock on Andras' features before the other fae set his drink down. For his credit, he could tell it was a struggle for him to do it quietly. Then he said he wasn't aware and asked the same question Troy and everyone else who knew seemed to be asking. Troy could only smirk before shrugging his shoulders. "Hell, if I know. Neither of us knew it could happen." Then Andras asked if he knew the species of the child and Troy scowled. He knew it was all for the protection of the court but he couldn't help but wonder if Andras would revoke his protection once he knew if it wasn't what he wanted to hear. Finally he shook his head. "No, the doctor hasn't even given us a gender, let alone species. But Amelia still craves blood and nothing else, if that's any sign." He watched Andras' features carefully, wanting to pick up on any doubts about this allegiance. If Andras ever thought to betray his family, he would choose them in an instant. Surely Andras would know that. Andras finally told him exactly what he had been thinking, that he would be wary of a vampire child if that's what it turned out to be. But finally he admitted that his protection would hold either way. Troy finally let a smile tug at his lips and he nodded. "Then it's settled. I will let Amelia know. We will stay in her home for now. I have it protected with wards and such so we're safe, though if that ever changes, I'll let you know." He held out his hand, willing to shake on the deal. Troy would follow Andras. Afterwards, he leaned back in his chair. "So...what now?" |
