I don't think I'll make it out alive see the devil living in those eyes Muddied the waters, hm? Strange wasn't it that it was her then, not him, that was so upset by the act? Didn't her reptilian brethren thrive in those sorts of environments? No, she was merely upset that it was his actions that unbalanced their precarious peace rather than hers. Still, between the two of them, was he not the fool treading through her hunting grounds, these fabled "muddied waters"? Spencer hummed noncommittally toward her retort about him being the 'animal' between them, electing not to continue 'poking' her. No, he knew he had overstepped and now it was time to eat his pride and allow her the barbs needed to regain control. Apparently, that nursing home held something dear, something he was never meant to learn, and something he was not going to ask about. The boundaries may be blurred but they were not erased. God forbid that should ever happen. It was unlikely he would recover. Askaree was also certainly testing how deep his wallet was and if it too could recover. Well, maybe that was a slightly exaggeration, but he would probably be interested in making an additional sale or two to recover tonight's losses. He hadn't exactly budgeted for Askaree's drink habit. Overall, he had to admit she hadn't been quite as insufferable as he expected. There were the common barbs, the underhanded comments, the smiling daggers thrown of course, but she had seemed more content ignoring him except to add to their tab. Though the tab was mostly contributed by Askaree as he was not going drink for drink with her. No, he would rather have some functioning ability (especially since he wasn't sure where the fuck he stood with her tonight). Spencer was swirling the remaining liquid in his glass when he noticed her gearing up to slur something in his direction when a sound that was decidedly not his phone chirruped. Spencer gave her a brief questioning look as she peered at him, unsure of why she was looking at him. The sound wasn't him or his phone. Next moment she was fishing her phone out and his attention turned to tossing back what was left in his glass, anticipating this phone call was likely to end in yet another round of drinks. Her sudden outburst, however, had Spencer's full attention on the woman, brow pulled together slightly in some concern. 'Had better be alive'? Well, that wasn't a good sign. The next few moments seemed to be a blur of movement from her, Spencer frowning slightly. "All right..." He mumbled, sliding from his seat and pulling his coat on as he turned to leave. As she charged ahead, Spencer lingered behind only long enough to swipe up her crumpled bills, replacing them with several from his own wallet that was certainly more than owed (hoped 'Hagrid' enjoyed his overinflated tip). He had agreed to pay for drinks tonight...Shoving her crumpled bills into his coat pocket to sort later, Spencer jogged to catch up with Askaree, not bothering with any questions. Now was not the time (nor was he sure he wanted an answer). He wasn't sure what he was going to do when they reached the establishment... maybe stake out his previous seat from earlier? Guess it half depended on what she demanded from him... single | warlock | notes: |
