She's not the only one who slept like a rock that day wrapped up in each other's arms, safe and secure from the world for at least a few hours more. Or is it that the world was safe from the likes of us? Either way, I was reluctant to leave her when the evening hours came and reluctant to even think about leaving the comfort of her bed and her arms. I could stay like this forever but then there would be no surprises left up my sleeves and when it comes to her, I'll never stop trying to be spontaneous. And so I take my leave, knowing exactly where she'll end up when I leave because though I know Isolt knows other beings of the night and she has a way of seeking out company, I have a feeling she'll throw herself into work to avoid thinking negatively about what happened last night. She always has a way of doubting everything, of ever believing someone could truly want her when that's all I've done since day one. But this night won't be about second guessing. She shared a part of her old life with me by bringing me to her apartment and now it's my turn to reciprocate. And so when I'm done making out invitations and putting them in mailboxes and picking out a costume, I find myself wandering up the steps to Red on the Water, already aware of her presence inside. I can smell her like a blood hound, the hunger for her touch already more than I can stand before I even step through the door. The moment my eyes land on her, I know that I must have her, the gray of my eyes darkening in barely consealed possession as I make my way across the bar to her, so tempted by the blush of her cheeks to take her into a back room right now and have my way with her. But tonight I'm going to make it special and I know just how to do that so I keep my thoughts to myself, sliding her the keys instead and knowing she'll recognize them. I see the surprise and longing in her eyes even as she comes around to take my hand. Her fingers slide so easily between my own like puzzle pieces matching and I can't help the smooth smile that crinkles my lips as we step outside into the cool night air. I give her plenty of time to look over the vehicle, knowing she'll be impressed. I pulled out all the stops. It was a collector's edition, a classic like no other so I wanted it to look like no other. Racing stripes and leather interior, the works, all to bring to life the dream she and her brother had. And from the look on her face, I'd like to say I've accomplished that. She throws her arms around me and plants a kiss on my lips that only leaves me hungry for more. A smirk tugs at my lips as my own arms link around her so naturally, yet I let her go to continue surveying the car for as long as she wishes. The moment she moves to the driver's door, I'm there in a flash, holding it open for her and extending my hand like any gentleman to help her in. Once she's snuggled inside, I close the door gently and make my way around to the passenger side. Sliding in next to her, I lean back in the seat, making myself comfortable. At her question, I merely raise a brow and grin. "Home. Or at least, what I used to call home. Durham, Conneticut." With that, I fold my arms behind my head and wait for her to start the car, letting the barriers drop in my eyes for a moment just to let her see that I'm taking a step forward here, bringing her into my secret world just like she gave me the honor of doing. |
