You call and I respond, the sparrow and the song I miss you when you're gone Spencer returned her smile with a small nod in acknowledgement for manners, if nothing else. She was familiar but he couldn't place it so had turned to dismiss it from his mind. He was simply here for a few drinks, maybe find some entertainment in watching people, then leaving to tuck himself away in his study to pour over books. He heard the blonde voice something or another but the words were drowned by music and other voices in the bar, his attention more focused on the glass set in front of him. He took the glass, raising it to his lips before he became aware he had a visitor. His brow furrowed in confusion when she accused him of never calling or writing, Spencer setting the glass back on the countertop as his attention turned in full toward her. He stared blankly, eyes searching her for some clue as to why he would do anything to keep in touch. It was doubtful they had ever slept together; he wasn't really the guy to go around falling into random beds with strangers. She definitely wasn't someone he had dated before, that much he also was sure of. "Wha... I-I beg your pardon but, who-" He stuttered at first, still baffled by the mystery when, maybe it was something in her quirky grin or light in her eyes, but there was a spark of (almost) recognition. It showed on his face, the wheels turning in his mind as he rattled quickly trying to place this faint glimmer of recognition. Wait! There! But wait- No, it couldn't be- The pure coincidence of her being here. "You're Autumn, right? Austin's little kid sister?" He snapped his fingers, pointing at her as he finally put the pieces together. Spencer's surprise (and is that a hint of excitement?) rang in his voice, a certain change from the usual scowl or irritation. Even the corners of his mouth were turning up in something that resembled a large smile, the man's usual disinterest giving way to a trace of nostalgia and glee. However, Spencer did not go in for a hug or anything like that. He had never been much for trying to hug random people, even if they were old connections. He looked over her again, not bothering to hide that he was giving her a once-over, even going as far as to lean back a little to get a better look. "You grew up. Last time you were like here-" Spencer added, holding his hand just above his waist to indicate (if not exaggerate) her shortness, "And had wires all over your face. Little pigtails we would pull too. How have you been, AJ?" Ah yes, the joys of running into the guy that was not only her protector but also her tormentor. Mind you, he never took it as far as her brother but Spencer wasn't exactly innocent. After all, she had been like that little sister for better or worse. Now though, it seemed she was no longer the little girl he used to tease or protect. She had grown up, so much he had almost completely missed who she was. While Austin and Spencer had once been thick as thieves, they had quickly fallen out of touch when Spencer's mother moved them abruptly in the middle of his senior year. It wasn't that there was any fight, any betrayal, simply half a country of space and poor communication. Spencer didn't think they had talked since graduation, the two briefly reconnecting shortly after before Austin went to college. Spencer never went to college; it had never been an option. single | warlock | notes: xxx |
