South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Emmy watches with curiosity at how well the dog was mannered. Even though she was young and still learning, she could tell that the puppy had a good owner who tried so very hard to train his dog right. It wasn't often that one came across a dog that could obey simple commands. Most of the time they just ran around crazy without any sort of obedience training at all.

As he apologizes for the way the puppy tries to greet her and she shakes her head as her hand reaches out to love on the precious dog. "She's better behaved than many I see...so it's a pleasant surprise. I don't mind at all." She offers a smile to Benjamin, trying to convey that the puppy's behavior didn't bother her at all.

At Benjamin gives out his pleasantries, she notes the way his first instinct is to call her Emerson. She had never minded being called her Christian name, it was just formal. She found that most inherently wanted to shorten it, so she had been used to being called Emmy. "You can call me Emerson, that's fine with me. It's just formal. Most people prefer the shortened version." Her teachers in school had always called her Emerson, but her friends called her Emmy. But Alex...he was the only one who ever called her by her formal name too. His way of greeting her had been completely related to how much he cared for her. After his death, there was no one to call her Emerson. That name was nothing short of a distant memory.

Hand rubbed along the puppy's head before moving to scratch the puppy's chin and then her belly as the dog finally presented it to her. She listened quietly to Benjamin as he recounted the day he had adopted his sweet puppy. Emmy could immediately relate to the little dog. She and the puppy had a similar past.

He asks if she has had any pets now or in the past and she shakes her head. Slowly, she gets up from her kneeling position and brushes off the dirt from her jeans before she looks up at Benjamin. "I remember having a dog when I was a little girl. But since I was thirteen, I've basically been homeless. I could barely take care of myself let alone an animal." What she didn't say was that she was still practically homeless. She bummed in hotels and on couches when she could. She was trying to find steady work but often times, she and her guitar would sit by the fountain in the square and sing for a few coins to buy her a hot meal and a bed to sleep on. It wasn't a glamorous life, but it was the life she knew.

However, her homeless state was not something she wanted to dwell on. She would much rather talk about this adorable puppy. "May I?" Hand extended to reach for the ball they were just previously playing fetch with. Perhaps a good game of ball could help them get to know one another.
