At one point, her name had meant so much to her. It was a way for her parents to identify her. It was the name called out at assemblies at school for highest grades or best attendance. It was a named called out over the crowd from her best friend looking for her. It was hers. It was probably the one thing no one could ever take away from her.
And yet, now that she was homeless, her name was something she kept to herself. It was all that she could truly call her own and it was something that she would protect with her life. No one could take that from her. They might take her money, her belongings, and her pride, but her name could not be plucked from her grasp as easily as a wad of cash.
So naturally, she wasn't quite ready to share it with someone she had just met. She was slow to trust after what had happened in her life. She kept most things to herself these days. Ever since the death of Alex, no one had ever been able to break down her walls long enough to really get to know the homeless woman. Kathryn might be the only person in this city to really know her name.
However, when Levi gives her the name he's going to call her by, she cannot help but look at him almost dumbfounded. The name he chose, amongst all the names in existence, he chooses a name that actually has meaning to her. He chooses her middle name and she cannot help the shock that crosses her features. How did he know he middle name? She swears she's never seen him before. Perhaps he knew her parents? Her best friend growing up? Perhaps it was just dumb luck and she was giving him far too much credit. She simply nods in his direction, accepting the name he's choosing to call her for now.
She asks him if he usually spends his Sundays rescuing damsels, just trying to get the attention off of herself and his answer had her stifling a chuckle. She highly doubted he wore a cape at all. He didn't seem like the type to go out of his way for other people. He seemed self-centered. Who knew? She could be wrong. But then he says that he wanted to check out the beach, wanting to familiarize himself with this place because he was relatively new here. She allows her gaze to rest softly on his. "The park on the south side of town is nice â€" sometimes I play there." She loves to play her cello in the park. It's comforting and soothing and it also is her only source of income. The park seems to bring in the most customers, followed closely by the subways. But she doesn't tell him that much. The subways were not worth sight-seeing.
Out of the blue, he asks if she knows any good, and cheap, burger stands around this area and she ponders the question a moment. "Mr. Olde's Burgers is not bad...but I prefer a little taco truck at the edge of the pier." Not only was the local taco truck better food, but it was also cheaper. Emmy knew all about the cheap places to eat around here. She had to. When she had to buy her meals on a dime, she had to know where to look. "The bar on the north side of town has a really good club sandwich too â€" biggest in Sacrosanct and the cheapest." She could often be found grabbing a club for lunch only because it would feed her for two meals.
