South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Her head snapped back so fast he was sure she was going to break something, his eyes twinkling as she looked up at him in question. But she didn't look scared. No, more curious than anything. He felt her studying his features. He knew he had that sharpened look. He got it from his father before him. The broad shoulders and long sharp face seemed to run in the family. Too bad he didn't get to pass it on to future generations. Well, maybe his brothers would had gotten to that part during their lifetimes. He didn't check in with them after he was turned. He didn't even know what they were doing when he was still human. He was usually away on raiding parties with his clan. They would stay gone for months at a time, sometimes years. Time moved much slower for him then. Now, decades seem to pass in a mere month. For a while, the woman was silent, simply taking him in so he waited. Patience was something he had adapted to all too well. There was a time when his temper would flare in half the time and impatience ran thick in his veins.

But after a century or two, he started to learn waiting was half the fun of existing. Socialization was also something learned with time. It wasn't necessary to talk a lot unless it was in slandering jokes with his clansmen. It didn't take a voice to kill or burn houses. But as the world changed, he had to change with it or continue on in isolation. Once Godric left him, he had to adapt to blend in with civilization. It was spreading and harder to get away from. The forests were being killed off and houses put in place of trees. He couldn't hide out forever. So he leaned to blend in and keep conversation. He learned different languages so he could travel and still socialize as necessary. He learned most of what he knew from people watching. It was fascinating to watch humans most of the time. He lost his clansmen when he was turned. Godric killed almost everyone but him and left the others for Erik to drain once he was turned. In this way, Godric made him into the monster he wanted him to be.

But then Godric spent the next 500 years teaching Erik how to turn off the monster. As he leaned over her work, she tried to shrug it off. He took the moment when she looked at her drawings to study her as she had done him. Her cheeks had gone rosy. It was a beautiful color on her. His lips twitched as she tugged at her own earlobe. A nervous habit? He nodded. "Well, you draw beautifully, even casually." His lips tugged into a small smirk at the last words. All too soon she closed the notebook and stood up to face him. He kept his hands in his pockets and his shoulders slouched, making himself look less threatening. She asked his name and he was about to answer when she spoke up, giving her own. He smiled, eyes twinkling. She immediately looked sorry for saying it, as if she was having some kind of internal struggle with herself. He tilted his head, fascinated. "I'm Erik. Erik Tolgan." He thought it only right that he gave his last name since she had given hers.

She continued on, crossing her arms and nodding as if agreeing with some silent question in her head. It was adorable. He lifted a brow, watching as she sighed and grew silent again, thoughtful even. "You have a lot on your mind?" He offered.
