The conversation evolved into something fairly serious in record time. The pleasantries were nice and all, and Dareios was certainly happy to see his long lost friend in such good spirits. But the fact remained that Sorcha's disappearance had been, well, abrupt and difficult to stomach. Even for him. He didn't beat around the bush about his interest in knowing what happened. It was hard to cultivate friends these days. Not only as a vampire, who some would say "has all the time in the world" to make new acquaintances, but as the Mayor, too. His job required him to associate with a certain group of people, a certain type. There was an image and a brand to maintain, of course. It was something the vampire had grown accustomed to in his past life as a philanthropist and even before that as just a wealthy businessman. He had to keep up appearances. That meant there were very few in his close circle he could actually just be himself around. Sorcha hadn't been in his life very long, but there was just an ease about being around her. She made Dareios instantly feel comfortable. He had a sense about these things - perhaps more than one. The vampire knew it in his bones that Sorcha was trustworthy. So the sudden void she left behind when she left - well - it was disappointing. He stood stiffly as he listened to the witch's honest explanation. But his demeanor loosened over time. What she had to say made a lot of sense, at least to him. "Sorcha, you're my friend." He reiterated. "I would have been delighted to hear from you. Any time. Always." He cracked a smile and raised an eyebrow at her attempt to change the subject with some quick wit, and let his beady gaze wander around the store again. He breathed a heavy sigh when he felt his phone buzz away in his pocket. Duty called. Dareios ignored the phone and looked at Sorcha again, shoving his balled fists into his trouser pockets. "I do enjoy it." He said easily with the nod of his head. "There's a lot of nonsense... So much red tape to cut through to actually get anything done. But sometimes, I feel like I'm making a difference." His phone buzzed again and a visible frown formed over his lips. He pulled the phone from his pocket and read the message, then fired off a quick text message. "I'm sorry." He said quickly. "I do have to go. But please, don't let this be the last time I see you. Perhaps we can get dinner soon? I'd love to catch up where there are no... distractions." He opened his arms, offering to give Sorcha a warm hug. "...And if I don't hear from you, I now know where you work." Dareios Auerbach | Vampire | Vinyl |
