The forest had always been a haven for him. He would lose himself to the sounds of the birds and the gentle sway of the trees. The sounds of rabbits scurrying and leaves rolling around the forest floor were heaven to him. This is where he came to escape. More time than not, he came here as a dog, enjoying the freedom of running with his ears flapping in the wind. He loved the feel of the wind against his fur. But today, he came as himself, dressed quietly in a pair of jeans, hjs cowboy boots, button up checkered shirt tucked nicely into the waist of his jeans, and completed with a had made for none other than a true cowboy.
You see, dear readers, Ashton is from a small town in North Carolina where his country accent runs deep and chivalry still exists. So naturally, when he sees the girl, no woman... in the woods, he is concerned for her own safety. But he cannot smell anyone. The woman is alone but she appears so conflicted. Her fear calls to him and he takes another step forward, unknowingly breaking the single twig that seems to force her fear into overdrive.
As he gets closer, he watches her closely, his eyes soft with a blue that seems to penetrate the soul. "Excuse me ma'am, are you alright?" Always respectful as a proper country boy should be, he's unprepared for the way the woman seems on edge...as if she cannot decide to flee or fight. "I promise I mean you no harm." He extends his hand out to her, a polite and hopefully welcoming way to offer his help, should she need or want it.
He takes another step closer to her, careful to go slow as to not scare her. He reaches up gently with his free hand to pull the hat from atop his head. He places it delicately over his heart. "Please ma'am, can I help you in any way." His accent is thick, but there is a sweetness about his voice. Malia had always told him he had the voice of an angel, even if he sounded a little funny to her. But she had trusted him easily and he only hoped this woman might trust him as well. He wasn't here to hurt her...not at all. He only wanted to make her feel safe.
