It had been a couple of weeks since Henry had found himself alone in this new and strange city. He was learning, albeit slowly, just what dangers this city had to offer. Per Sterling's request, he still didn't stay out after dark. The few times that he had run late at work, he had tiptoed slowly back to Sterling's apartment trying not to make a sound, look at anyone in particular, etc. While he was normally very successful, he had run across a couple of creatures that would much rather eat him for lunch. It was still shocking to see such creatures actually existing and Henry still found that he had trouble believing such things, even though they were constantly staring him in the face.
Since waking up in the park all alone and very much afraid, Henry hadn't been able to find much information about himself. He had gone to the police station and handed over his meager belongings and given the officer his finger prints. But nothing had come of them. He was still a nobody. It had hurt Henry, to not have any sort of lead on who he was before. But there was nothing he could do about that now.
After he had left the police station, he had found a local temp agency to find a job. While he didn't have an ID, the person behind the desk felt for him. It was like she had seen this before. She had him evaluated and his skills assessed. He was found to be highly skilled with numbers and his mathematics scores were off the charts. He was determined to be smart with an above average IQ. While he didn't feel that smart, when they asked him about numbers, finance, and accounting, he was able to do the work quickly, efficiently, and correctly. It was determined that he was probably an accountant or business owner. The temp agent looked through her rolodex and found that she had an opening in a local business who was in desperate need of an accountant to do book keeping and managing their assets. So Henry was given the information and the address for the business.
Henry had gone to visit the hiring manager at the corporation. It appeared to be a fortune 500 company in a high-rise. Henry had never dreamed that he would be working in a fancy office. Once the manager realized his skill set, he was promptly given a full-time position and a bonus with an advancement on his first pay check. Henry had used that money to buy him some dress slacks and button down tops. The rest he used to open up a bank account. He had already pulled out some money for Sterling and had given it to him to pay for food, rent, and bills. If he was going to be living with Sterling for a few weeks, then he wanted to pay his share of the expenses.
The last few weeks, Henry had worked hard and already his boss was impressed with how easily the job came to him. Henry worked hard and his paychecks reflected that. He was sure he would be able to afford his own apartment by the end of the month if he budgeted correctly.
After coming home early this particular Friday afternoon (normally he was home right at 6pm, but today he came home early about 4pm), Henry decided to welcome himself to a bath. Sterling wasn't home yet, so he helped himself to some fresh towels and ran himself a warm bath. Normally Henry was a shower guy, so it was obvious when he was in the bathroom, but today, he left the door cracked, not anticipating Sterling to be home until much later tonight. He figured it was safe. So once his bath was hot, Henry stripped down, placing his clothes on the lid of the toilet seat. Slipping into the tub, he sunk into the water, enjoying the feeling of the warm bath. It was soothing and relaxing. Perfection.
