Emerson had just always been told that her powers were something that should be hidden â€" that she was a freak and shouldn't be trusted. After all, it was why her family had cast her aside and it was why no one wanted to foster her. She had felt as though she was an outcast and she had tried so very hard to suppress her powers and keep them at bay. But when she was growing up, her powers were growing and were unpredictable. The more she tried to learn to control them, the more hurt she caused. So she had tried everything in her power to make them go away...until she met Alex. He had taught her to control her powers, to use them for good. He had made her feel special in a way that no one had done before. But now he was gone and she felt so very alone and guilty. She should have been able to stop the tornado from taking his life.
Knowing that this woman knew who she was just by scent alone was unsettling. Where she grew up, those who had supernatural powers were expected to cover them up or seek retribution. This wolf was using them freely and it was something that Emmy wasn't used to. This place was different. No wonder Alex liked it so much. They embraced their abilities here, not hid them. For a moment, Emerson wished that she had been raised in a place like this were her powers were celebrated, not frowned upon. Maybe her life would have been different.
She listened as she explained that every supernatural creature could recognize one another. It was an idea that was so foreign to her, something she didn't understand. But she simply nodded. "I came from a place where you were expected to keep your gifts a secret." Which is why Emmy rarely used her power. Sure, she could change the weather in her isolated area very quickly...but the way her eyes grew white and cloudy was unnatural. So she had to use her power behind sunglasses in the hopes to hide her gifts. It wasn't a fun way to live...but that was all she knew.
While she watched the wolf, she watched the knife slide out of its sheath and slide across the room. Eyes narrowed at the wolf. She could feel her eyes changing and she could hear the rumble of thunder. Fuck. Her heart was beating rapidly and she was trying so hard to control her abilities. But fear was her trigger and she was downright terrified that her only weapon near to her was now across the room. "Please, give it back. It makes me feel safe...and it helps me control myself." Truthfully, Emmy was now worried that she would accidentally bring on a storm within the warehouse. She needed to feel safe if she was going to ward off this storm.
Finally, the knife was pushed towards her and Emmy grabbed it quickly and replaced it back in its sheath. Just as soon as the weapon was secured, she immediately felt more in control and the thunder began to fade. Her eyes slowly returned to normal as she watched the wolf. She hadn't come here to lose control of herself and she sincerely hoped that it didn't dissuade the wolf from her kindness.
Eyes watched as she packed up her belongings before handing them (well, flying them) towards her. Emmy first grabbed the satchel and placed it over her shoulder following closely by the sword. She wasn't sure what this wolf wanted so she stood still. She listened quietly as she explained that there was an in where she could stay. The thought of a fresh shower and a comfy bed was all too inviting. It had been a long time since she had been pampered like that. "I don't have any money for something that fancy. I have to use what I have for food." She was only being honest. She wasn't rich by any stretch. She earned what she could to feed herself. When she asked if she would promise not to hurt her, Emmy nodded. "I don't mean any harm to anyone. I'm just here to find someone...then I'll go to the next place that calls to me." Once she found Alex's family, she would leave. The memory of his death was all too fresh and it made her heart ache. She wasn't sure she could stay here with such heartbreak. All she knew was how to move on from place to place. This was just another stop.
