Getting Rhett to stick to a bedroom schedule was a bit difficult. Like his feline Father, her son was naturally curious. After bedtime stories, she and Tobias would leave him to sleep. However, some nights, her son would somehow break out of his crib and quietly or loudly play with his toys in his bedroom or the playroom. Other times he was sitting on his bedroom floor, flipping the pages in one of his soft books, tracing the letters and images. Sometimes, she would find him fast asleep underneath the crib. For his safety; her peace of mind, she wanted to figure out a way to get him to stay in bed and fall asleep during bedtime.
A few nights ago, Raven read aloud a book where the main character was trying to build a blanket fort to sleep in. When the picture of the blanket fort appeared on the page, Rhett would trace the outline of the blanket fort with his small fingers, speaking softly 'blanket fort' over and over again. With her son entranced by the blanket fort, Raven thought perhaps she should bring that drawing to life, partly for his amusement. However, when her mate mentioned the blanket fort looked like a cave, it had her thinking. Maybe Rhett didn't like staying or sleeping in his crib because his lupine half was craving a safe place to sleep. In fairness, the crib did remind her of a cage sometimes. After doing some online shopping and scavenging for spare blankets and pillows within the Ark, the young Mother had all she needed to implement her plan. Leaving her son with her husband, Mira, and Alexa, she spent the early afternoon and evening with her son, Raven went to work in his bedroom.
The she-wolf replaced his crib with a new toddler bed, taking some various dark green different colored fabric, twisting and pinning it to the wall and ceiling to make it seem like a canopy that covered half the bed. With some new pillows stacked against the bed, some piled on his bed, including a new dinosaur one, his sleeping area looked like a cozy, makeshift cave/blanket fort. Quite pleased with her efforts, she placed a new dinosaur blanket and pajamas on the bed to surprise him, hoping that this change may get him comfortable enough to fall asleep and not go on more unsupervised nighttime adventures. Blue-grey eyes flickered towards the wall, with the time nearing for Rhett's scheduled bedtime. With a pep in her step, she headed towards the playroom, excited to share her special surprise, she sought to meet with her son and husband. Finding the two of them alone in the playroom, playing with their toys, she leaned against the doorframe, observing the two quietly. However, when she heard her son's soft, chipper voice say 'Mama,' she entered the room, giving her two boys a wide grin.
Her eyes briefly looked to her mate, giving him a small smile, as she picked their son up and rested him on her hip. As her son pressed his head underneath her neck, she closed her eyes, burying her chin into his shaggy dark hair, enjoying this peaceful moment. When he began to ask questions about his surprise, Raven looked to Tobias, muttering softly, as the two walked out of the room together.
Stopping at Rhett's bedroom door, Raven tilted her head to the side, encouraging her husband to open the door, as she verbally told her son to close and cover his eyes. As soon as the door opened, she waited for Tobias to enter first, and then, she proudly told her son to open his eyes. When his little hands left his face, she nearly went deaf as he gasped and screamed with pure excitement, shouting 'blanket fort' repeatedly. Feeling him scramble to get out of her arms, she lowered him to the ground, watching happily as he headed towards his new bed, grabbing some of the pillows and showing his new bed off. Curious to see her mate's reaction she leaned in quickly to give him a soft kiss on the cheek whispering softly.
