If I could tell the world just one thing It would be that we're all ok And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful And useless in times like these
______Green. That was the first thing that Rin noticed when her world changed around her. From the cold steel of human buildings, from the cacophony of the city. It was like being shrouded by a bubble, warm and comforting and then everything felt different. The air was light and clean, filling her lungs and causing her to breathe deeply, and erratically. She wasn't quite sure if it was that causing her light headedness or simply the alarm of what she was seeing. Trees tall and untouched, thick grass, and a sky so blue it reminded her of a painting she loved. Trying to calm her breathing, she inched forward on her hands and knees, as she'd been sitting the entire time. Her small fingers ran through the grass, the dirt packing beneath her fingernails, though she didn't mind it. Her knees scuffed, and her skirt grass stained by the time she stopped, huddling herself beneath a massive tree, she tucked her knees against her chest and wrapped her arms around herself to steady her shaking. She couldn't remember what had happened before all this, though she could see it in her mind's eye...a sea of darkness, rough and hot from the sun. She closed her eyes and realized she didn't want to remember it, and pressed her muddy hand to her mouth, covering her trembling lips.
______It wouldn't be long, she knew, before the shaking would stop, and she could move again...but until then all she could do was wait, and let her mind try to focus on a melody she adored, a sweet tune she'd heard just this morning by the composer Clint Mansell, a talented genius, his music had always given her goose bumps, and helped to ease her stress.
______As if an electrical pulse had run through her body, she suddenly awoke, her brown eyes scanning her surroundings in a fleeting sense of panic. It took only a moment to remember she was no longer at home, and everything that had come before. She could feel tears brimming in her eyes, she let them come, feeling alone, she wept hard until her fear shredded away into a nagging ache in her gut, rather than an overpowering sense of dread. She knew why she was here, and where exactly here was. That helped to regain her composure, and so she stood slowly, her legs feeling new and unsure of how to walk properly, her feet were clumsy on the uneven ground, so she reached down and slipped off her sandals. This felt much better, she'd always disliked the confines of clothing and shoes.
______The cool ground beneath her feet gave her renewed courage, and so she smiled to herself, allowing music to play within her mind, gentle tunes..a piano perhaps, with a distant hum of a voice. Thoughts swam among the notes, simple and precise...she knew what she wanted to do, her soul called out inside her...do it...do it. She closed her eyes and felt the magic in her pulsing. She would use her coin now, to call up from herself her truest friend, the one who would walk this new earth alongside her. Not sure how much time had passed, she soon felt the cold nose of an animal on her shoulder. Her eyes shot open and before her stood a beautiful creature.
______"Hello." The word seemed to echo off the trees and it startled her, but the creature stood silent and firm, without the slightest hint of distress. She was aware of it's gender, of it's presence in her mind, and yet he did not speak back to her, but merely stared her in the eyes as if he was trying to make sense of what and who she was. Yet...he knew, she could feel it in her mind, he knew who she was and in that thought was meshed together a warm sense of love, and with that feeling fresh in her mind, she stepped towards him and pressed her pale hand against his black nose. Her body trembled with wonder, and finally she heard him. His voice was heavy, and reminded her of thunder. "You are frightened?" His words moved through her, and then it was too much, she flung herself forward, wrapping her arms around his soft, furry neck.
______That was three days past, and things had changed a lot from that moment on. Her precious familiar had taken on the form of a large white Caribou, with a a bit of brown here and there on his back and chest. It had only taken her a day to pick a name that he found suitable. She'd tried names like King and Bear...but he said one was merely an illusion, and the other might scare the Does. So they'd settled on Turquoise, because he said he liked the images it called forward in her mind. Today they'd decided it would be wise if she left the confines of the forest and went in search of her own kind, as she couldn't very well live out here for ever, the berries she'd been eating were starting to not sit so well in her stomach. So, she'd climbed onto Turq's back and he'd surprised her with a sudden run and leap that left them both air bound and flying above the forest. From there she'd seen so much of her new world, and from that view she'd seen the ocean, it's white topped waves and golden beach. "There, let's land there...I could use a good swim, and..I think I see someone down there."
______He'd adjusted his weight to land, and she held onto his antlers, white knuckled with tension at the decent. He proved to be quite skilled though, and landed smoothly, giving her nothing more than the slightest jolt as his hooves came in contact with the sand. He'd placed her down about 20 feet from the woman she'd seen. Sliding off his back, she wiggled her bare feet into the warm sand, loving it. She'd never been very good around others, and so she remained silent for now. She probably looked as odd to this woman, as she had back on earth to everyone else..but she wasn't quite sure. She'd come here in her light, floral top with the bell sleeves, a knitted blue vest with one side longer than the other so it hung in a slant around her front. She'd made that herself. To top it off she'd been in her brown broom skirt, which was now muddied and torn where she'd been crawling, showing one scraped knee. Her hair was wild, tangled and hanging all around her like a pale mane. For jewelry she had a pair of simple silver dangles that had fake diamonds on the ends, and a necklace that hung beneath her shirt so what hung on it was unseen.
______ Breathing in deeply, she raised a single hand and waved slowly, folding her fingers in towards her palm twice. "H-hello." She smiled, trying to not look as frightening as she felt she must look. Which merely wrinkled up her small nose and freckles.
I won't be made useless I won't be idle with despair My hands are small, I know But they're not yours, they are my own
