East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

With a heavy sigh Leto dumped the last of the dirt dishes from the lunch shift into back for the diswashers to take care of. There was a bitterness in the fact she had taken up a serving position at a local hole in the wall but her former boss at the computer company had gambled and lost the business. True- she could have sat home and collected unemployment and she had walled herself in her apartment for two weeks creating new music for her less-than-talented DJ clients, but of course she probably collected roughly 15 hours of sleep total and looked like death warmed over. Not something she particularly wanted, plus she got stir crazy and there was only so much she could do.

Walking out of the back and over to the bar she separated her tips out for the busboy and let her eyes flick upwards to her replacement. The older woman had tried to get Leto to warm up to her but friendship wasn't exactly something Leto was interested in, she was a pretty solitary person. "Hey, suga', how's everythin' lookin' fo ta'night?" The woman- Charlotte, with her thick southern accent and chocolate brown curls was a popular waitress, and although Leto knew how to be polite to customers she never made as many tips as Charlotte did. She was a warm woman with a down-home personality who would embrace the regulars in hugs or kiss them on their cheeks. Yuck. "Fine, but Marcella dropped the police chief's lunch on his lap so the boss isn't in a great mood." They were renowned for some of the best burgers and dishes in the area, very hipster-chic in décor and the beers and ciders they carried.

Passing over her book and filling Charlotte in on a few remaining tables and their orders Leto started for the office in the back- untying her apron from around her rolled up jeans. They were a bit more laid back than most places, the white shirts had the bar's logo over the right breast and across the back as well and they were permitted to wear sneakers that were non-slip. Though with old hardwoods slipping wasn't one of the biggest worries. Entering the office and heading over to the lockers Leto opened her lock quickly, her boss going over some numbers in front of him and entering them into a small laptop. Tossing her apron and pens into her bag she pulled on a long blush colored sweater and took her hair out of it's ponytail- her fingers raking over her scalp with relief.

"See ya." Turning and exiting before he could ask her to pick up any additional shifts Leto peaced out as quickly as possible. The next three days were her first off in four weeks, she had been there for only a few months but he knew she wouldn't say no if he asked. Not that she was that nice or anything. Stepping out the side-door into a alley she slung her bag over her shoulder and walked out onto the sidewalk. She only made it a few blocks before she noticed the woman walking roughly 50ft in front of her stiffen and turn down an alley. Now if Leto knew anything about the world and the creatures that were around her she would have just kept on walking to her subway stop and gone home- locking the door and never bothering with anything. But she didn't. And although she didn't exactly like people she was a bit concerned. Maybe that girl had seen something?

Cursing herself Leto rolled her eyes at how stupid she was being and did a small jog so she caught up to the entrance. All she could see was the hunch of the woman's back, and the clear upset that ran through the lines of her skin. Not taking much care- or moving like anything other than a human Leto's sneaker scuffed some gravel that echoed around the walls surrounding the girl. Jerking slightly at the woman's words and stance Leto raised her hands in a non-threatening gesture, an uneasy and nervous look on her face as she raised her eyebrows, "uhhhh... just me. Relax, okay?" She almost backed up but found herself glued to the spot as she locked eyes with this stranger- her eyes were so pale that Leto felt as if ice was pooling into her veins and keeping her here.

"I saw you dart in- just making sure everything's okay." One hand grasped the bag on her shoulder with a nervousness and adjusted the weight, "you look fine, I'll just see myself out then..." Looking down she furrowed her brow and then glanced up again. Despite being a bit introverted she still had curiosity, pivoting slightly to the side she could help but keep eye contact with this girl who held an aura around her as if she was a queen of sorts.
