East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

...To Think I Might Not See Those Eyes...
...Makes it so Hard Not to Cry...

The Inner Sanctum Cafe had quickly become one of my favorite haunts since Aiden had encouraged me to go out into the city and explore. Being shy and reclusive as I am, I had felt guilty after coming to realize that the Were-panther was a slave... or 'pet' as he preferred, being deprived of all simple pleasures, even so much as stepping out for a cup of coffee. Knowing the man was stripped of such trivial freedoms gleaned me a greater appreciation for the little things in life, and I found myself utilizing such freedoms with more confidence now.

I liked the Cafe in particular, as well as the local book store, for the simple fact that at this time of night it was not highly trafficked and so I was not subjected to large, obnoxious crowds. I could sit in the gentle quiet, sipping my raspberry mocha and fingering through the aged parchment pages of the archaic books set along the many shelves among Alexander's collection of curiosities and occult novelties.

Tonight was just such a night, and I was curled up in a discreet, half-shadowed corner of the cafe in a cushy red leather chair that had an Olde World feel to it, platinum locks falling in beguiled waves over one eye as I read.

A jingle of bells signals another patron's entrance, and a peculiar sensation whispers across the back of my neck and causes the lustrious amethyst of my eyes to rise and rest upon the brooding man who has entered. Gaze fixates upon him, and that prickle on my neck intensifies.

The darkness of night seemed to follow him through the door, shadows billowing about him like a cloak, lapping at his heels like a loyal dog. I suspected what he was in that fraction of a second, but I am not the type of woman to pass judgement based upon species.

For all the cumbersome shadows that oozed from his aura, streaming about him like vile demons, my own aura radiated with a soft shining light. A soothing beacon against negative forces, and it seems my keen senses are rather sensitive towards those plagued by just such forces, for I have the uncanny knack to gravitate towards them...

Or was it the other way around?

The man takes his drink from the Barista and turns to settle himself into a chair just beside my half-hidden alcove. Lavender spheres illuminate slightly, just over the edge of my book, watching with rapt attention as a series of expressions skitter across the hard lines of his face, almost violently attacking the mound of whipped cream atop his.... cocoa?

Odd choice for a man fully grown. It made me grin, despite myself. And then he mutters an obscenity with a feral intensity...addressing no one in particular.

I set down my book on the small side table, taking my cup in hand as I lean forward in the sunken cushion of my chair.

"You know, I generally come in here to get away from that kind of language.." I muse softly with a curious smile. "They say it's unhealthy to talk to yourself. I don't know that I completely agree with that... unless of course, something or Someone, answers."

Multi-faceted spheres seem to peer right through him with a gentile probing. I held no special gifts of clairvoyance, but it would seem my instincts, more often then not, always seem to hit the nail right on the head.
