The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

The Ripper
William Jack Holloway
To the Duke, there was something about this Hunter that was so unlike all the rest. Her very demeanor was different somehow, more interested in the inner workings of his mind rather than the notion of simply arresting him. It was that alone that had William pausing, his interest in the peculiar woman outweighing his desire to flee. After all, it wasn't as though he could flee this time. Where would he go? He wouldn't lead them back to Sebastian's home - that would put the vampire in a danger that he refused to do. And he couldn't leave town, he'd made a promise to that very vampire that he was staying within Sacrosanct. So he merely stood frozen in front of the attractive Hunter, his lips pursed and his muscles coiled tight as he prepared all of his options for what the night would hold. Fight or flight. And flight wasn't an option.
The notion that he may not quite understand what she was here for saw his eyes darken, a frown appearing on the features. "You work for the Council. You're here because I'm on their Wanted List. They want me to come in to... work with them." He recited the words as though they were some boring textbook he'd memorized. But he'd heard the words so many times. "Next you'll ask me to come willingly. That they don't want to hurt me, they just want to help me." He shook his head. "No. Thank you. I like my freedom." He paused them, listening to the fact that he may not understand, that she didn't even know why she was here. He paused then, giving that abbreviated tale of what had happened with his maker. Of course, William knew well that that was not the only reason that they wanted him. No, they wanted him for what had happened over those years in Whitechapel. The eleven people that he'd murdered. There were only four of them that the Council was concerned with out of those eleven. All eleven had been people, all eleven were moments in his time that he regretted. But the Council cared about four of them, because four of them had been human. The other seven had been supernaturals. A witch, three faeries, three weres. Those lives were worth taking, apparently. But not to William.
There was something about the way she looked at him then that had him wanting to squirm, the insistence that he wasn't a murderer hanging in the air between them like an accusation before finally, the Hunter answered his words with the insistence that yes, he was. "No," He whispered quietly, shaking his head. "I'm not. I... I didn't mean to." His voice sounded almost like a child then, tired and broken. She knew more than she let on, he could see it in her eyes, and how he wished he could take back his time in Whitechapel. "I can't control it. I use my power, and there's nothing but blindness. Nothing but this uncontrollable rage that fills me and I lose control. I can't remember what happens after it." He shook his head, letting out a breath of air.
"Tell your Council that I'm not interested. I don't use my power at all, I haven't in over a hundred and twenty years. They have nothing to worry about, and they can leave me alone."
But darling -- it's only human nature.
