East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

bring me back to life

I can tell just by looking at the girl that she hasn't exactly had a good day. There's a certain sadness about her that makes me want to give her a hug. Of course that wouldn't be appropriate and she probably wouldn't like that very much. I still hate to see that on someone so pretty though. I can't help but wonder what she's thinking and what makes this day so rough. Did something happen? Was someone mean to her? Or is it the day that reminds her of something bad?

I still have my father's birthday to look forward to. It will be the first birthday knowing that he can't hurt me, knowing that he's really gone, not just a phantom in my nightmares. He used to make a day of it, his anger at its worse when he's reminded that my mother wasn't here to bake him a cake and shower him with love. I took her from him so it was his day to take from me. And he did so love to destroy me. My confidence, my dreams, everything that he could take from me, he did in high fashion. All because of his love for her.

I won't grieve for him though on that day. I refuse to. He doesn't deserve it.

I wonder if the shop is just closing for lunch or if it's closing for the day or even for good. I don't know all the rules and such for shops. I only work at a coffee shop after all. We don't close for lunch but the workers do get lunch breaks at different times. Maybe she's just going to lunch? Somehow she doesn't look like she'll be coming back if she goes home like this though. Maybe tomorrow or the next day but she looks done when it comes to today.

The girl slowly turns to me and I an tell she was getting ready to give me attitude but somehow she can't even muster up the energy. All the life seems to drain from her eyes as she mutters before opening the door again. I tilt my head in curiosity, my gaze softening. Is she opening up just for me? I offer a small smile when she says not to ask too many stupid questions. "I'll try." I reassure her, slowly reaching up to touch my hand to her shoulder for a moment, if only to meet her gaze for a moment in a look of understanding before I step inside the shop. I hope I didn't step over any invisible lines or anything. She might just regret letting me in and throw me out now because of some no touching rule or something. That would be my luck.

I look around, my eyes widening in awe. "Wow." It's all I can think of to say at first. The place is just so colorful, so full of life. It's mystifying. I go the first shelf I see, reading the small tags on the bottles. I don't understand most of it but the liquids swirling around in the bottles are mesmerizing all on their own. I turn slowly back to look at her. "What made you want to make potions? Do you like helping people?" I tilt my head, watching her for a moment before I return to perusing the shelves, hoping I'm not already asking stupid questions.
