The relationship between Raven and Az was definitely a unique one. Underneath both of their quirky exteriors, Ludo could feel there was a fundamental form of respect for one another. As dumb as it might sound, Ludo desired for all walks of life to get along. When it came to Ludo's childhood, there were many times where he found himself forming bonds with all types of super naturals, even humans. Perhaps it could be considered a naive way of thinking, of being open minded and as genuine as social interactions allowed, yet he couldn't understand why anyone would want to be anything that they weren't. What was the point of such façades? Who did it truly benefit in the end? He scratched his stubbly chin and pondered this thought that bounced around in his brain every now and then. Soon enough, the conversation was getting elevated enough to draw back his attention into the conversation. He listened as Raven made a sassy remark about hell not being ready for her yet. He appreciated her resolve and firmness in her morals. Especially when it seemed as though she had been shut down multiple times, by numerous figures.
No more than a few moments later, Azrael replied as swiftly and punctual as usual, waving his hand dismissively as he sarcastically spoke about how fearsome Raven was to place only a two on the Council's scale. Inwardly Ludo had to chuckle. He understood the classifications of threat level, but imagining Raven even on that scale was humorous to him. It's not that he didn't feel Raven was intimidating to others or didn't respect her fortitude, it was more so that he sensed beneath a tough, quiet exterior, she was a very fragile person. Whether she believed that or not, was another story. Yet, he brushed the analysis off his shoulder and kept listening to the two discuss the case between them. After Ludo's interruption inquiring which Council it was that Azrael spoke of, they went on to speak of the problems plaguing about Italy. Especially with the wedding coming up.
It seemed that Ludo and Az met eye to eye on most matters, especially when it came to the carelessness that so polluted most Dark Hunters nowadays. There was the temptation like Az stated, where quick money can drag men to do reckless things, no matter the consequence. Ludo interjected thoughtfully, "Quick money spends funny, and it never really sums up." Maybe he felt this comment made him hypocritical. After his mission was completed it was an automatic bank transfer for his task. Yet, it wasn't as if his father was giving him random people to assassinate. The business he worked for was independent but targeted individuals who had caused heinous crimes, some Ludo even knew the High Council wouldn't care to unravel.
Az continued on, informing both him and Raven of the shortage of members and the recent decline over the years. He understood the frustrations and struggles the association was faced with, but there was absolutely no way he could meddle and become a part of it. He had already sworn to take over his father's business when the time came. Which the time would be much sooner than he had ever anticipated. Ludo examined Az's questionable expression, it seemed he was deep in thought. Ludovino wondered if Azrael had gotten the choice to become a Dark Hunter. For Ludo, it was a bloodline tradition. The eldest son was to take their father's place, no questions asked. Ludo had convinced himself that he was not bothered by his family choosing his purpose in life, yet there was still something that didn't settle quite right with him. Like a mere thought, it was swept away in the wind so to speak. He tried not to dwell on such internal conflicts as much. For him, it didn't seem to be of use to keep pondering over something again and again.
There was true appreciation when Az agreed about how eager he was for the wedding to be over. Ludo watched Raven's head shoot straight up and exclaim that she knew the king herself. "Ah, perhaps I'll finally meet him. It's humorous that I would meet the king outside of Italy though," he toothily grinned, all too entertain by the idea that he had a better chance of meeting the king outside of his own country. Soon enough, Az and Raven were quarreling as usual. It reminded him of a brother and sister, trying to convince their mother whose story was true. It was entertaining, and all in good jest.
There was a shift in the conversation shortly after when Ludo asked what the two are doing in Sacrosanct. There was a slight raise of eyebrows that shown on Azrael's face. Opening up to Ludo, he spoke of a person of interest who might convince Az to settle permanently in Sacro. "That's exciting to hear," Ludo smiled. "I hope everything works out," he added, nodding his head with a cheerful attitude. It didn't take Az long to shift the attention over to Raven as he asked what she wanted for a wedding gift. "Wedding gift?" Ludo spoke in curiosity. Studying Raven's face and her limited response, Ludo briefly gave a "Congratulations, I hope all works out for you as well." He caught on to the social cue that Raven wanted keep more information to herself than speak about it upfront to somebody she just met. Respectably, he let Raven keep her distance and let the conversation fizzle out.
There was a short groan from the chair as Az got up and bid his farewells to Ludo and Raven. Immediately, Ludo got up as well and took the contact information Azrael held out his way. Asking if anyone needed a ride, Ludo responded politely with, "No thanks, my house is not far from here. See you later Az," nodding and waving as he watched the Dark hunter saunter confidently out of the building. Turning to Raven, Ludo took out a scrap paper and scribbled down his number. "Contact me if you feel like. I'm interested to see what exactly the importance of the medallions is. Well, buona notte (Good night)!". He waved to her and waltzed out of the bar, enjoying the crisp air on his walk to home. |
