The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

beautiful and strange
it must be I've fallen awake
I must be
The glass door behind her head opens and closes with the comings and goings of cafe patrons, and Gia winces every time she hears the little bell jingle. The chime signals a rush of cool air from outside, which swirls its way into the shop. Goosebumps pimple their way down her arms each time, and as such, the thin dark hunter slumps down further into the booth, trying to use it to block the cold when it is suddenly upon her. Buffy pulls her sweater more tightly over her and folds her arms over her chest as she looks at the girl now sitting across from her with half-interest.
Buffy watches from behind bloodshot eyes as this stranger cringes and her eyes widen like Buffy is some kind of lost puppy. If it wasn't for Buffy's clearly unstable stomach, she would have gotten up and walked away right then and there. Instead, she merely purses her lips together tightly and balls her fists before sighing deeply. Buffy looks away when Miya orders her some food. Once the waitress is gone she shoots the girl a hard look. "Listen, I don't need your sympathy." She spits at her. But clearly, she's too weak to offer anything else.
The dark hunter purposely doesn't meet Miya's gaze after that, her dark, tired eyes focusing on the blustery weather outside and the silhouettes of bodies as they move by on the sidewalk. Eight hours, she considers. Maybe if she could keep this toast down and get home, she could sleep off the rest of this nightmare of a day. Then maybe she'd be good as new come tomorrow, and ready to get back to work. As long as she could chart a path that would help her avoid seeing Sebastian for a few weeks time, at least. The toast and the water arrives and Buffy is pulled back into the situation at hand with this girl from the hospital. She takes a look at the hot, crispy bread and then back at Miya apprehensively, before grabbing at it with shaky fingers.
She's chewing, and its going down surprisingly better than anticipated. Buffy brings the water to her lips and swallows. Then Miya speaks. Buffy cringes, as if being forced to relive some of the hazy images she has from the night before. "Some guys at some bar." She says bluntly. "I didn't know them. A friend found me and took me home before it was too late." She realizes too late that she's identified Sebastian, a vampire, as a friend. But what else was he? Who else would carry some drugged girl home all the way on the other side of town? Tears began to well at the corners of her eyes and her lips forced a forced frown. She couldn't stop the tears once they came.
