Frigid eyes glared at the customer who had shuffled out the door as those who sported the intimidating eyes trudged up to the counter. Her name was Vhalla. Her only goal, was to buy the cake the previous customer had taken so greedily from her. Ludo offered for her to try his opera cake that was in the back patiently waiting for the chocolate ganache topping to set. "I think I can spare an extra ten minutes," Vhalla swiftly replies. It seemed as though her sole focus was on getting a cake no matter what it was. A soft smile stretched across Ludo's face as he saw her focus draw immediately inwards, nodding her head back and forth like she was trying to forget something embarrassing. After offering her a free slice she cheekily responded back that she desired to purchase a whole cake. "Well, how about I offer you a discount then on it?" he shrugged as he lifted his shoulders and eyebrows in unison.
"I have one condition though," Ludo pointed directly at Vhalla with a playfully stern look. "You have to try a slice immediately to let me know what you think. He didn't think the woman would mind being asked to eat a little sample of the opera cake before leaving. "I wish I could have gotten more people to try the cake. I suppose that just gives me an excuse to make it a second time though." Ludo thought as he imagined already how he could alter the recipe. It doesn't take long for the intense woman to isolate him from his thoughts as questions come bursting from her mouth like an open floodgate. "What kind of cake is it? Is it chocolate? Oh god, I hope it's chocolate," the enthusiastic silvered hair woman interrogated. "For the most part it is," Ludo replied. "It is a Joconde, which is an almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup that is layered with a chocolate ganache and coffee buttercream that is coated in a chocolate glaze," he explained as he used hand motions to explain how everything was put together.
It was like Pavlov's theory with Vhalla and chocolate. Every time he said the word, she seemed more and more excited. There was one point, where he could have sworn he saw her drool a little at the mention of the ganache. Without hesitation, she asked how much she owed him, she was eager to buy it whether or not it was what she wanted. "With the discount, you just owe us $15," he nodded as he took the wad of cash she pushed across the counter with eagerness. He notices her eyes wander to the figure behind him working in the kitchen. He watches her suddenly frown at the lady. Raising an eyebrow at her, he listens to her state that she never had seen a were own a bakery before. "Oh? Well, now you have. There's a first time for everything, isn't there?" Ludo cheekily retaliated back. It seemed the woman was curious as to why a Dark Hunter was working for a were as well. Also, assuming that all Hunters did was hunt.
"Well, because she owns the establishment. I help her out and she lets me create the kind of baked goods I want to. It's a mutual benefit sort of deal," he scratches his chin and nods slightly. "Also, Dark Hunters do hunt, but some of us have hobbies. This, is one of mine," smirking he folds his arms and leans onto the counter. Not long after, she barrages him with more inquires. Such as, how long he had been there and how he didn't look like he was from the area. "Well, good eye. I am not from here. I've only lived here for 3 or 4 months now. I'm originally from Naples, moved here just because," he explained not really desiring to go into detail with a woman he just met on how he truly ended up in Sacro. "Ah, I think the cake might be ready now," he glanced down at his repetitively beeping watch. "Give me one moment," he shuffles into the kitchen area and places the cake in a decorative box. He carves out a small piece for the woman to try and waltzes back out to the front area juggling the box in one hand and the sample in the other. He hands her the cake and watches her intently as she takes her first bite. "So, how is it?" he questions. |
