It was a certain relief, knowing that people like Ellie still existed within the bustling streets of Sacro. It was indeed a lonely city that Ludo had came to. Day in and day out dealing solely with missions, to only either stop by a bar and get a drink or go straight back to his home. He tried to start giving himself more things to do other than work such as running around the block or cooking. Coincidentally, he had stumbled upon the bakery, Tal was looking for workers and they had bargained a deal. If he helped, he could use the kitchen to his heart's content. Of course, it took no hesitation for him to agree to such a steal. He remembered his first day working, as he was baking his rounds of cookies Tal had praised him, stunned by how well he presented the recipe. It was thanks to her that he exuded more confidence and adventured further in his baking.
Yet, that wasn't what seemed to "take the cake" so to say with his job at the bakery. He had met someone, who he didn't know yet to be the light in a dark place he would get himself into later, and her name was Ellie. The first time they had met, it was like he had known her for his whole life. To him, she was just as warm as the sunshine that shone down upon them as they sauntered down the snow-covered sidewalk. As Ellie asked quite the plethora of questions, Ludo had brought up his hometown Naples. He couldn't help but blather on about how great it was and that if Ellie ever had the chance to go to Italy, to visit his hometown when she was there. A cheeky reply towards his statement left him questioning whether or not Ellie was flirting with him. There was a grin that shot across his face as she told him that maybe one day he could take her. "We'll have to see," he chuckled back at her, surprised by her assertiveness. She had mentioned how her, and her brother had moved to the city and that the people seemed withdrawn. "I couldn't agree more, I find that it's a bit harder to live here. It's definitely different from what I'm used to. It makes me feel better that someone shares the same opinion as I do," he nods in her direction, an appreciative look casted upon his face. His response to her next question about school, "No I don't go to school here. I'm a little old for that anymore considering I'm twenty-nine," he laughed. They continued down the pathway, making comfortable chit chat along the way.
A decadent coffee aroma wafted in their direction as they crossed a street. Looking up, Ludo saw the sign for a café he had been absolutely excited to try. He was glad that he now could have someone to try the coffee with. Asking Ellie if she was okay with making a pit stop to enjoy a cup, he watched her warmly smile and nod. Ludo had always found himself comfortable in the presence of others. The bigger the group, the better his mood was. Influenced by his childhood, he wanted to always surround himself with others, to enjoy company even for short periods of time. There was just something about interaction with all different walks of life that made him feel more secure in his own skin. Ludo offered to buy Ellie's coffee with the $10 tip she had so secretively placed in the bakery tip jar for him. Leading him into the coffee shop with a wink and the statement of having no idea what he was talking about, he follows, impressed by her.
Most of the tables were bustling with people, a cozy interior and a sleek modern menu board. He looks as Ellie steps in front of him, focused on the numerous options in front of her. Stating that she might get a hot chocolate, Ludo raises an eyebrow, "Not a bad choice," he teases. "I like americanos, so I'll probably just stick with that," he stated as he glanced at the menu before them. As Ellie went up to order her drink he slipped the ten-dollar bill towards the cashier and ordered his. "My treat, thanks for taking the detour with me," he toothily grinned. They had ordered their drinks to go, not wanting to take up too much of her time and walked out into the chilly city again. "Next time, we'll have to stay and chat there for a bit. Seems like a nice place. How is the hot cocoa?" he asked as he looked down to see Ellie chugging it. It seemed all her actions were endearing to him one way or another. Finally making it in to the neighborhood, he stops as they reach his house. "Well Ellie, this is my stop, I hope I will get to make you cookies again?" his deep accent joyfully asking her as he handed her the ornate package of cookies. |
