The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

She didn't answer this time when he asked what she was thinking but he did catch the smile she gave as if in apology. Okay, if she didn't want to talk about it, that's fine. He had plenty of patience. At least he knew she would be safe as long as she stayed with them. He'd like to see whoever did all that to her try to get to her now. He didn't care if it was vampires, Were's, other witches, whatever. He wouldn't let any of them stand in his way of keeping Sorcha safe. He had seen plenty enough in his lifetime to know how to take care of himself against any foe. At least Adele and Sorcha seemed to be getting along just fine. At Adele's comment about slightly inappropriate things, Sorcha quipped right back about things going bump in the night. As Adele tittered behind her hand like a school girl, Erik cleared his throat and tried really hard to concentrate on his book. He was so not getting dragged into this particular conversation. It was one thing for him to flirt with Sorcha right there; it was a whole different scenario for Adele to hint at her sexual activities in front of him. It would be like his mother talking about or something. At least Sorcha seemed to be enjoying herself. He could see she was still blushing. It really was quite attractive. He couldn't stop glancing over from the side of his eyes, his lips twitching at the huge grin on her face. She seemed so perplexed by his interest when he started outwardly flirting with her. So either she didn't see him that way or she couldn't understand what he saw in her. He would like to think she wouldn't blush so much if she wasn't interested though. He didn't care about how he found her. It only worried him at the time cause he already cared about her wellbeing, even though he barely knew her. But the way she reacted was totally normal. In fact, he was surprised she didn't attack him. He knew she would react when he hinted at intimacy, though she was good about keeping eye contact. Still, he could hear the blood pumping in her veins like wild fire. He knew he was affecting her, his lips curling up more in a smirk in response. She dug her fingers into Darwin's coat and he wondered vaguely if she was using him for comfort or something. But then a flash of something like a challenge was in her eyes before she asked what ways. He only smirked wider. "You're the one who brought up things going bump in the night. I'm sure you can imagine. Or maybe you don't have to." He was just as good at coming up with comebacks but she would figure that out soon enough. He raised a brow toward Adele, noting the tiny smirk on her own lips before she cleared her throat dutifully and went to clean off her plate in the sink. She came back then for Sorcha's knowing she was done, and cleaned it too. At least he got her to soften up some when he brought up sponsering a new shop for her. She put a hand on his for a minute and thanked him, but said she couldn't. He nodded. "I understand. Let me know if you change your mind." As she pulled her hand back, he noted that she glanced at her own hand as if thinking about something and he tilted his head a little, just watching her. But then she brought up earth magic and something about seeing the way the world works. His brows furrowed thoughtfully as he listened, wanting to hear her out. He could tell she was passionate about what she did and to hear that she could no longer do it....it made him angry for her. No wonder she was in such a hurry to go out and find someone to help. He watched her hand draw up into a fist. Slowly he reached out, grabbing her hand. He slowly unfolded her fingers, gently stretching them back out before smiling at her. "We'll figure it out. You didn't lose your magic for good. It's going to be okay." He searched her gaze, wanting her to know that he meant every word. He wouldn't rest until she was happy and whole again. And apparently that included being able to make potions. She admitted that she had shadow magic now. He didn't really understand what all that entailed but she didn't sound that happy about it, not like she was when she talked about earth magic. She said that her parents died and his brows furrowed in concern. "I'm sorry. That must have been hard." He'd been to enough funerals to know the pain of grief on a loved one's face when they lose someone, whether it be kids or parents. It was always a hard loss. She said it like their deaths may have triggered the shadow magic. He tilted his head a little, wishing he had read up more on witch magic. The more she talked about shadow magic, the more he could see that she wasn't happy about it one bit. He could tell she wasn't completely convinced when he said not everyone brings problems. That's okay. He had plenty of time to show her. "Maybe in the meantime, you should explore the shdow magic. You make it sound bad, but just because something can be used for evil, doesn't mean it has to be." He tilted his head, watching her. He was a prime example. Vampires were thought of as evil things that murder for blood. He hadn't killed a person in centuries. Then he surprised her by letting her know he would be helping her with her search. She apparently didn't know that vampires could have powers to walk in the sun. He chuckled when she brought up glittering. "Guess you'll just have to wait and see." He gave her a teasing wink. |
