East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

East
She breathed magic in like air, thrived on the way it thrummed in her veins like blood. This was what she'd missed since leaving Normandy, but besides that she'd never looked back. Her family--both the Irish and French sides--still tried to contact her, her aunt Rochelle sending the wind to do her bidding, whispering in her ear night after night "Marrea, cherie..." But she ignored it, drowned out the whispers by sleeping. Why would they try to talk to her at night? They knew how weak darkness made her, knew her fear, how she always tried to be indoors in the darkest parts of the night.

But it was full daylight now, early afternoon, and magic filled every breath she took. She walked down the sidewalk with a sinuous, easy grace, her small feet barely landing on the cement before springing up again. She walked quickly, for one so petite, although she had no particular destination in mind. The magic humming in the stones excited her, and she let it pull her along its inexorable current.

The wind played lightly with her long auburn hair, tugging a few wavy pieces free from the long, four-strand braid that hung over her left shoulder. The loose pieces covered the slightly pointed tips of her ears, although even with that most obvious marker hidden, it would be clear on a second glance that there was something not quite human about the little woman.

It wasn't in the clothes she wore, a loose white tunic over dark skinny jeans and black flats with a bow over the toes. It wasn't in the long thick braid. It was maybe something in the startling violet eyes, the energy and vibrancy that glowed there. More likely, though, it was something in the way she moved, lithe and stealthy as a playful afternoon breeze.

Seldom in her life had she been forced to hide her nature, so why start now?
