East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Oliver Burton

Oliver was a firm believer in judging one's character, their desire for hard work and how they were brought up. That was how he chose the people to work in his company. He didn't have patience for the weak-minded individuals that only wanted something from him like greedy vultures they circle. Of course, he was under no illusions that those who worked for him were there for little more than a paycheck. But it was what made the world go around, everyone needs a purpose and the money to fuel their own dreams.

He listened to her explanations, to her carefully laid out answers to each one of his questions. While he did know his company's solid reputation it was still distinctly nice to hear that the youth were taking notice. They were the people that needed to be influenced to be inspired and shape in order to create that movement. They were the change in the world that he so desperately wanted to see, which was why he had the intern program set in place. He listens intently to her carefully chosen words with decided interest. It was something about the confidence in the way she spoke, carried herself, and the very way her eyes seemed to light up with life that her rarely saw in people anymore, especially in job interviews such as this one. She certainly had a spark, he hadn't seen it in the others he interviewed but she seemed to have it.

She answers his question as seamless as the last, elaborating far more than the person before her who shily answered every query with the least amount of words as possible, as though they threatened to wither away into the chair they sat within. He was sure the girl before her didn't look him in the eye once and she sat across from him trembling like a leaf. Kathryn was confident, articulate, and possessed a certain charisma. All qualities that would serve her well in this field. It is one thing if your good at what you do, but if you cannot sell yourself there is no hope at all.

The dark-haired youth before him offered him more than he had even asked for, but he didn't exactly mind. It only offered the man more insight into who the woman was sitting across from him. He sat so easily and poised within his chair, as though there wasn't a damn thing in this world that could shake him. He was in every sense the bear he shifted into, hard to read and borderline grumpy. However, his words are nothing short of professional and perhaps meant to be a compliment all the same. "It sounds like one day, you could create something of your own should you wish it." He added, not really elaborating, allowing thoughts bloom into her mind like freshly watered sprouts. What she did with her impending harvest he was almost curious to see. Time would tell the woman's true character but today she was more than any intern he had anticipated to walk through his office door today. Perhaps that was something he could be grateful for.

Interest seems to flash within his nutmeg eyes, genuinely curious of what she has to say about the matter. It seemed to catch the witch off guard, perhaps this was a good opportunity to see if she could handle a little pressure. His intense gaze does not waver until he finished speaking. "It is an interesting notion Miss Murphy. I am afraid that it matters so little who builds these builds and only serves the purpose of what the masses desire." Motives based of fear did little good for anyone. No, he didn't have much of that within his heart, save for the people that he cared for around him. He feared for them and perhaps the culmination of his business was because he wanted to create a fortress to keep them safe, with money came power. It was simple. He was not truly a greedy man, but every action possessed a motive, it wasn't necessary as complicated as she made it to be. But he wished to protect what little good that was left in the world. How many companies paid little mind to that, building what was cheapest, with cheap materials, poor craftmanship, with little care for the environment, as though it should simply take the abuse. No, he wished to create something lasting, something with a small footprint and done right the first time. It came with a high price tag but at least it was done right and those who chose him were rarely disappointed. "I do not wish to live forever, but I do wish to leave a positive mark on the world. Everything is so very temporary, people, buildings and everything seems to reflect it. Only feeding into what they want right now and not of the impact their actions can cause. I want to be the change I want to see in the world." Maybe it was a losing battle but even the successful business man had his dreams, both selfish and selfless, an imperfect balance of the two. "I do suppose it does offer us immortality, but like anything, nothing is forever." He added almost thoughtfully, that stern gaze softening and looking toward the papers on his desk.

He had to admit, he found her honesty, refreshing. He gave her that signature stern stare as if assessing her then, the weight of his nutmeg eyes peering at her piercing silvery blues with certain ease. He wanted to see if she would squirm, every last person seemed to squirm beneath those expressionless eyes. All before he lost interest and he finally allowed his English accented words to leave him. The Englishman as adept at reading people, understanding their motives and to be quite clear, he found her refreshing. "I happen to agree with you. Although, you were doing quite well with feeding me the right lines." He could not help that smile that tugs upon the corner of his lips which threaten to give way into a grin. She really was as good as hired in his eyes, the business man leaned back into his chair for a moment, eager to leave this cooped up office. Trying to keep a polar bear stuck in a man's body on the top of some high-rise downtown seemed like a ludicrous joke.

"That is why I propose I take you to one of our current building sites. I do not think you will be disappointed." He paused with that iconic impassive hard expression, not giving away what he was going to say next. Oliver rarely every did. He was a hard man to read and so often her came across callous. If only they knew he was anything but. But he needed that guise of the immovable structure of his buildings. He suddenly slides over a large manila envelope that was sitting in front of him, sitting upon a stack of papers. Within the envelope contained information that she needed about the company and her internship in a neat little dossier.

"Or you can accept the job now and start tomorrow. I do insist on fair pay for whoever works for me, interns or not. I am also sure you are aware of our partial scholarships for our interns.... As well as a chance at a full scholarship we give one lucky intern. It isn't something we advertise, we don't want people who want the internship for the wrong reasons." Many took advantage of the fresh faced and eager, he had no interest in that. He got very little from the internship instead of maybe inspiring a younger generation to be better. To be better when so many failed and continued to fail. All he knew is that something needed to happen, change needed to happen soon and the world was so painfully uninspired.

"If you accept after all of this, simply show up tomorrow morning and you can fill out the required paperwork." There was always a never ending slew of paperwork and they very thought left a hint of distaste in his mouth, but somethings were simply the way of things.
