The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I'm about to make my own way, heaven help me keep my faith She offers him just a sliver of a smile as her eyes of silver blue meet his own of an earthen hue. Kathryn really hoped he would not reprimand her for disturbing him. She wonders briefly, did he always work this late? It reminds her of her grandad, owning your own business seems to mean you never stop. Papers, phone calls, dealing with employees. Kathryn was grateful to just be an intern for now, she wasn't ready for this life. She wasn't ready to give her soul over to a company. But, she could let the company rent it for now. "Yeah I should be," she says with a small hint of laughter in her voice. "I was looking at some blue prints and then drawings, and just the ideas for the place and I got so caught up in it," she says with a shrug, as if she hadn't been able to herself, and really Kathryn hadn't been able to. She had always possessed that sort of strange hyper focus. It expressed herself in her school work, in the sports she had done, and now she was experiencing the same thing when she practiced her witchcraft and now with this new internship. She just couldn't help such things. Lack of concentration has certainly never been on of Kathryn's short comings, while there still may be numerous others to name and discover. Silver blue eyes narrow in on him then, his eyes look tired, like he hadn't had a proper night's rest in some time, or maybe even had a day just to himself. It almost makes her heart ache in a sort of sympathy for the man, but, knowing just the little of Oliver that she did, she figures he wouldn't appreciate such feelings towards him. She continues to linger in the door frame of his office as she catches his words before a sigh falls from his lips. The next string of words that he passes towards Kathryn catches her off guard. It was not often that an employer encouraged one of their interns to work less. But she simply lets a smile find her face in response. "I've gone out there, Mr. Burton, I would much prefer a conservative, stuffy tower and compared to frat boys asking if they can do a body shot off of you," she says before tucking a strand of sable hair behind her ear. But those eyes follow his gesture all the same as she sees the buildings standing there ever stoic, lights practically sparkling against the darkened landscape. "But, regardless, it is a beautiful city," she says, quietly, as if the words were meant only for herself. As that face scrunches in response to her words, Kathryn worries for her internship for a moment, because she may have just gotten herself fired. Internally she cringes, expecting the worst to come, but instead, a question arises. She offers only a smile in response to him, trying to hold back laughter. He says pizza as if the sable haired witch had asked him if he would dunk his head in a bucket of sludge. Had he never had pizza before? Had he never gone to college? "Because it is one of the best foods on the planet," she says, that small, timid smile has started to slowly turn into something more akin to a grin. Kathryn's coven may be from Ireland, and she may sport those traditional Irish blue eyes, but Kathryn's father had been all Italian and she always likes to blame him from her love of carbs and cheese. He looks repulsed and she dares to let a bubble of laughter topple from that smile as she raised her hand to her lips as if to keep such a thing from happening. "You don't question why pizza tastes good, you just embrace it," she says, her voice jesting and teasing lightly. How can this man be questioning one of the greatest foods created? Kathryn grew up eating pizza, nearly every birthday party had been invited to it had been the food of choice. Or when her Gram would come home, that large box in her hand and Kathryn knew it was going to be a fun night with her family. Can I be truthful? He asks, and Kathryn leans against the door with raised eyebrows. What could he possibly have to tell her? She was just an intern. "Never?" She cannot help the look of shock that crosses her sun kissed face. "Well we need to fix this A-SAP," she says before starting to turn out of the doorway. "Come one, it'll be my treat," she says before an impish grin passes over her features. "Get ready for a whole new world," she says before waiting to see if her boss will join her. |
