![]() Even from here, he could tell she wanted to make it all better, just like she always did. Even without her powers, she always wanted to take away others' pain and make it her own. She was selfless that way. But he didn't want her to take away his. He didn't want her to be in pain anymore than she would want him in any. He knew he'd have to come to terms with her leaving and he thought he had, but maybe that was easier when he thought he would never see her again. Now here she was in front of him again and he had no idea how to react. Nothing was as easy as it used to be. He wondered if she had found someone else, someone to make her happy. She deserved that. He wondered how she would feel about Amelia, knowing he had someone now, that he had a kid, even. A small part of him wondered if he should even mention Tenley, since she was such an awkward subject with those not in his close circle of friends and court, but he knew he could trust her. She was Sam, after all. He wondered what her plans were now that she was back. Would she take over a court again? He didn't know if he could leave Andras. He'd become a good friend to Troy in the short time they'd known each other. Troy had connections in the court now, between Dorian and even the shy fae girl that Andras had taken in. Would Sam join the court too or was she even planning on staying in Sacrosanct? His chest tightened at the idea of losing her again but he couldn't get his hopes up either. Not if it meant hurting again when she disappeared. He hated that she winced as she stepped forward as if to hug him. His body reacted naturally by tensing but he hated himself for it automatically. A part of him did want to wrap her up in his arms like that's where she belonged, but he knew it wasn't, not anymore. He fell into the chair instead, figuring maybe talking would get rid of some of the awkwardness between them. He told her he would have gone with her and knew without hesitation that that's exactly what he would have done. But she didn't give him the chance. She told him as much, that she didn't want him to, that she wanted to save herself. He understood all too well, his face softening as he nodded. "Yes, I do." It's all he could say, since he didn't want to keep dredging up that it didn't make it easier to see her gone. He needed to get past that and find out how she was now. That's what really mattered. She bit her lip when he asked about her before then she was able to admit that she was really and truly doing good. She told him that she missed him and his eyes warmed at the words. She told him that she learned more about her powers and found the people who turned her. He didn't know about the nightmares so his brows furrowed in concern but he was glad she found the courage to face them. He just wished he could have been with her. He would have given them a piece of his mind, for sure. He knew that's not what she would have wanted though. She told him that she felt stronger now, finally like she could be the person she was pretending to be before. He leaned forward a little. "I always knew you were that girl, truth be told. You just didn't want to see it then. I'm glad you can, now." He smiled then, warm and welcoming, truly glad to have her back. "Where you staying?" The protective side of him wanted to make sure she had a safe place to lay her head at night. He knew he couldn't just offer a room at Amelia's house or anything but he wouldn't mind getting her a hotel room or something just to know that she had somewhere to go. |
