The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Her own voice trailed off as she looked up at him and he couldn't tell if she was just shocked that someone had almost run her over or whether she was as paralyzed as he was. He knew he wasn't ugly or anything by any means, but he'd never really embraced his looks like Troy did. Troy was the pretty boy who styled his hair and smirked every time eyes were batted his way while Kit usually ducked his head into a book to avoid awkward conversation. It wasn't that he was bad with women. He just wasn't very smooth. He'd had a handful of girlfriends or so in his lifetime but he'd had some bad luck mostly, his last fiance from 100 years ago or so having cheated on him for 5 of those years before he caught her in the act. He kept telling himself he was going to swear off women and just stay celibate but in moments like these, those thoughts went straight out the window. He was a die hard romantic at heart though he'd never admit it and the fiery red head in front of him was doing all kinds of things to his head. He wasn't sure he wanted to get away from this particular distraction, either. As he stepped back and released his hand from her waist, she ran her own slender fingers through her hair and he couldn't help but follow the motion, wondering if her hair was as soft as it looked. Then she said it was fine and he smiled a more genuine smile. "Well, even so, I promise to try not to make it a habit. Don't know how good your collision insurance is." Okay, so that was corny but hopefully not enough to drive her away. When he asked about the desk clerk, she followed his gaze before she said that she wasn't sure where the lady was but she didn't think they sold maps here. He scowled thoughtfully and looked around, wondering where else he could try. Was there a gas station around here? He thought he'd seen a few maps at those before. Then she asked if there was somewhere she could help him find cause she knew the city pretty well. His eyes softened, genuinely thankful and he was about to say that he needed to find his brother but then his mouth closed. Did he really need to find him this instant? Troy had been on his own who knew how long at this point and she seemed like good company. He knew that was his hormones talking mostly but it wasn't like he was going to throw her over his shoulder and take her to a hotel room. That was more Troy's thing, not his. He was a wine and dine and court her for all she's worth kind of guy. And all at once, he was thinking he was in the courting mood, all because of this girl. She gave her name as Samantha, saying he could call her Sam and his dimple showed again as he smiled. "Well, Sam, I'm Kit, and I'd honored to have you as a guide. I'm not looking for anywhere in particular, just wanted to get to know the city a little bit for my stay. Guess there's no better way to do that than with a local. Got any hot spots most tourists don't know about?" His brow lifted almost teasingly. The smaller the place, the better. He wasn't a fan of loud crowded places. He liked the cozy feeling you get when you step into a small diner or coffee shop and everyone knows everyone by name. Maybe she'd take him to one of those or maybe even somewhere more quiet, like a private beach or a treehouse in the woods. He didn't care at this point. He was just curious to see inside her mind a little. |
