The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I can tell by the look in her eyes that she already knows what I am. It doesn't bother me, keeping an identity in this town. It seems like just about everyone walks around with a billboard on their forehead or something that dictates their species. It just kind of comes with being in this town. I know I throw a lot of others for a loop when they see me walking in the sunlight but it's just a major pit fall for the hunters who want to fry me. Nobody else seems to mind. As long as I don't eat them, of course. At my teasing remark, the witch giggles before moving to my table. She plops down in front of me and I lean back in my own chair, crossing my arms to get more comfortable as I tilt my head with amusement. So she doesn't mind the company of a vampire, interesting. I take a whiff of the air. Hot chocolate, how refined. I wish I could remember what simple things tasted like but nothing tastes the same when you're undead. The only thing that even comes close is liquor. Maybe that's why so many of my kind enjoy the bars and clubs as much as anyone else. It's about the only thing that can help numb the lust for blood. She leans forward as if about to share a secret so I do her the honor of leaning forward myself, blue eyes twinkling as I listen. I can't help but laugh softly as I lean back in my chair again. "I can see where you're coming from but don't you think that's ironic to explain it to me? I mean, I live off of taking the blood that your heart pumps through your body. I guess that's irony for you." It is funny when you think about it. Blood pumps through your heart and I drain the blood from your body, leaving your heart as empty as mine. I don't know what kind of reaction she might have expected. Laughter was probably not one of the more favored ones but I just can't help the first thoughts that pop into my head. I'm the undead and I'm been alive for over a thousand years. I'm not supposed to go mushy over stuff like love and lust. I am as unfeeling as I choose to be. Sure, I can be a romantic when I want to be. I've charmed many a woman into my bed or into my coffin. I've even had a few pets, if you'd like to call them that. We would court and I would possess them as a human husband would where no other man could touch them by punishment of death. They would be mine alone and I would enrich them with everything money could buy while they fed me and kept me company from the loneliness that can possess one of my nature. Some might think of it as another form of slavery but I never heard any of them complain. They all seemed quite happy in their time with me. A small smile tugs at her lush lips suddenly and she reaches her hand out for mine. I don't hesitate to put my own hand out, shaking hers firmly with eye contact, the way anyone would with former teaching of how to properly shake someone's hand. She introduces herself as Serika and my own lips tug into a smile now. "Erik." I reply smoothly. The other waitress skips back over to give her a pastry though I don't miss the subtle eye contact between the two. Soft laughter falls from Serika's lips as her frend moves back to work. My eyes glide effortlessly down the waitress' body as she maneuvers away before sweeping them back to Serika. A single brow cocks upward at her challenge, a smirk etching its way onto my features now as I lean forward slightly. "You know, most predators wouldn't even bother until you go and say something like that. Don't you know we like a challenge?" My eyes suddenly gleam with a feverish glow, flashing her a grin that teases at my feral nature before I compose myself once more and lean back with a light laugh, flipping my hand down in a push off manner. "Don't worry, I don't want to toy with your friend. I bet she doesn't have half the conversation skills as you do." I give her a sly smirk now, both brows rising expectantly as I wait for her response. |
