The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I was lost for words as I laid on the asphalt staring up at the most beautiful creature I'd ever laid eyes on. It definitely wasn't a horse or a deer. Not even a zebra. No one would believe me if I told them what I saw. If I wasn't in shock, I'd have probably thought about taking out my phone for a picture as proof. Wait....my phone. Glancing around, I could just make out the cracked and mangled box that had been in my back pocket laying on the road a few feet away. Yeah, I'd have to get a new one. Means I couldn't call for help, either, or a lift. Sighing, I looked up and down the road. It was usually dead around this time of night. That's why I chose to drive out this way, so I could open her up and let the Harley fly. I don't even know if I could walk home. I glanced down at my leg. It was hard to tell under the weight of the bike but it was starting to hurt a little now that the adrenaline was wearing thin. Couldn't say the shock was gone, though. Not while I was still looking up at the vain creature before me. What else could I call it? I know animals aren't supposed to have thoughts and feelings but the way the beast was looking down at me then the deer at its side, I swear it's like it was dissing me or at least really irritated with me. It even snorted like a disappointed parent. I couldn't help the scowl that crossed my lips. I was about to mumble something about how the deer and whatever this creature was walked out in front of me but the words all but died on my lips. Was that....butterflies? It was like a royal swarm of white butterflies suddenly where the unicorn thingy was standing. I squinted my eyes as I put a hand to my head, wondering if I had a really bad concussion and I didn't know it. Did I hit my head on the road? I didn't remember if I did. My head didn't hurt, just my leg. Then something really crazy happened. As the butterflies cleared enough for me to get a look, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. A woman, a very much nude woman, was standing in the same place as that magical creature was a moment ago. "Uh, I uh..." I stumbled over my words, swallowing as I sharply looked down at the ground, not wanting to stare at her beautiful figure. Sure, I'd seen plenty in those few milliseconds it took me to figure out what the hell was going on, but I knew my manners and it definitely wasn't to stare. I cleared my throat as I kept my gaze squarely on the road. "Um, do you need a jacket?" Okay, probably not the smoothest but it seemed only polite. She had to be cold, right? Without waiting for her answer, I used one arm to brace me up the best I could while I shimmied out of my leather jacket and tossed it toward her. I don't know if she'd ever accept it but maybe some part of her would be embarrassed and want to be covered. She certainly didn't seem embarrassed. Her first words as she moved to touch the handlebars of my Harley made me look back at her without thinking. She'd never touched a bike before? I knew it wasn't every girl's dream to be around motorcycles, but she talked as if the whole thing was exotic to her, otherworldly. Almost like that creature that was just standing there a few minutes ago. But let's stay sane, shall we? She walked delicately around the bike and I couldn't help but watch her. I tried very hard not to look below her jawline, though. See? Not an animal. As she got closer to me, I almost had the urge to scoot back from her, not like I could, though. I couldn't get past the image of that unicorn-looking thing and then the butterflies and now....this. I had to remind myself that I'd already run into a woman who could take apart guns with just a glance and a girl with the strength of ten men and sharp fangs I still have memories of being in my wrist. Okay, so I've already seen some crazy stuff in this town. It still always manages to take me by surprise, though. The woman before me talked about not leaving me before crouching down beside me. She asked if I needed help and I had to clear my throat again before I could answer. "Um, yeah, probably, but it is heavy." I didn't want to say it was probably too heavy for her, but I certainly didn't want her to hurt herself trying to lift it. I put my own hands under the bike and tried to lift, but could only get so far. It was so much harder to maneuver when you were under the damned thing. Grunting with effort, I tried again, but was once again met with failure. I tried to slowly lower it back down, noting that my leg was bleeding pretty bad. It looked like some road rash and something had managed to puncture my calf. Probably a stick with my luck. Sighing in defeat, I looked back at the woman. "Do you...have a phone by chance?" Maybe I could borrow it to call for help. I didn't want to point out that she didn't really seem to have anything on her person, but maybe she had something packed away somewhere? That was realistic, right? |
