East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

we all fall down like toy soldiers

The best part about this garage was that I could usually be found here, that it may not look like much from the street but it had high-tech equipment lining the walls. The other thing I loved about the garage was that there was a sensor on the ground at the beginning of the parking lot. I knew someone had pulled in before the headlights even pierced the ground near my feet.

I didn't stop what I was doing, not yet, I let the man climb from the car. My eyes scanned first the car, noting the color and model, good choice on the color. Blue was always a favorite of mine. Maybe it was because it reminded me of Ellie's eyes, they'd always been my favorite feature of hers. I kicked the license plates to the side as I moved across the engine, I relished the way the grease played across my fingers, the way it dropped into the crevices. It reminded me of my childhood and it was the one part that I absolutely loved.

I had removed my hoodie, the grey t-shirt I wore riding up as I twisted the wrench to pop the battery, the jeans were slung low on my hips. It was reminiscent of years passed when I had been in a similar situation but searching for something way too different. Finally, I glance up as the man comes closer and this time, I search him with my eyes to note the clothing and way he'd climbed from the car. I had to wonder if he was human. I seemed to be running into a lot of non-humans as of late and I never realized it until too late.

Life was so much more simple when I was tending bar and fixing cars in Virginia Beach.

He knows my name and my lips turn up in a smile, "I haven't even been back a week and already Jack has been talking. I'm Finn." My words are said with that grin on my face, clearly joking and I was pleased to have the business. There was nothing I liked more than working on cars, it was something I was inherently good at, I wasn't taught. I taught myself through trial and error and worked my way up from there.

"I can help."

I gesture towards the car I was working on, "Let me just move this, pull it in here." I turn to pick up a fresh battery and within moments I was hooking it back in and sliding into the drivers seat to connect my wires again. Later I would have to make a master key for it, but it was fine for now. The car is moved out of the way, placed further back in the garage.

I waited until he had pulled the car into the garage before walking back to the garage door and pulling the door down. It was always best to keep things dark when working in luxury cars; no one said anything when I pulled a beat up old thing in. But when I started to get fancy, they started getting nervous. I couldn't afford nervous, the last thing I wanted was to call one of my siblings to bail me out of jail. Again. I waited for the other man to get out of the car, "You have a name?" I don't beat around the bush, when it came to the job I was all business.

"I'm a lot less cheaper than just buying a $200,000 car. I don't ask questions either. You want everything?" I ask, gesturing towards it. I knew a jacked car when I saw one; I was an expert at it. "It might take me a few days to forge some documents of sale but I can do everything else tonight if you don't mind waiting."
