The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Once I get a closer look at her, I do notice that she's got the most intriguing violet eyes. I wonder briefly if they run in her family or if it's some odd gene she picked up somewhere along the way. Her hair is up but in a nonrestrictive kind of way, with wild waves falling out of the bun and framing her face in a way no professional makeup artist could re-enact. I bet she gets plenty of suitors, if she doesn't hit them too, of course. The moment our eyes meet as I make my way toward her, I can tell that she knows exactly what I am, not like I was trying to hide it. I'm quite proud to be a vampire or leech or blood sucker or whatever they've come to call me now a days. I drink blood, so what? It only matters when I kill what I drink from, right? Some would disagree but then you don't see me hunting them down for the cows and chickens they take out daily for their own food rations. Hypocrites, really. I'm sure she had every reason to take out the vampire she just got done dusting. I'm sure enough she didn't let him walk away from the encounter. No decent hunter would and judging by the confidence that oozes off of her in waves, I'd say she must be pretty good at what she does. I can feel her eyes measuring me up as she catches the beer I slid her way, her glittering intelligent gaze sweeping over me and I hold my ground, eyes twinkling right back at her as I hold my most relaxed pose. I'm not here to yank her chain or get her stake happy. I just want to know my customers. I can see the twitch of her lips there for a minute and my face relaxes even more to know that not all is lost. She must have a sense of humor somewhere beneath all that seriousness. She takes a sip of her drink before telling me she hit the guy first and I chuckle under my breath. She tells me he won't be hitting another woman and I tilt my head, considering for a moment. She doesn't have to say that she killed him. I already know she did. "Well I guess that's one less asshole in the world. Where were you in the Civil War? Plenty of assholes you could have taken out then." I grin playfully as I straightened up to pour some ladies a drink. I see the sash on the girl's shoulders and my eyes darken. 21 at last, it read. She's human, I can tell by the smell. She giggles like a school girl still as I walk toward her with my most charming smile. "So, what'll it be for the birthday girl?" She blushes as her friends giggle behind her, whispering in each other's ears. "Cosmos, please. Enough for all my friends." Well, she's polite, at least. I nod and move toward the liquor shelf, grabbing what I need and pouring it expertly in glasses before sliding them across the bar to her and her friends without spilling a single drop. As she grabs for her purse, I shake my head with a wink. "They're on me. Happy birthday, sweetheart." I fear for a moment she might faint, her friends rushing to grab her shoulders as they "aww" all over the place and give me the dreamy eyes. Deciding I've done enough damage, I move back over to the hunter, hoping I haven't lost her interest that fast. I lean back over the bar and tilt my head. "So what brings you to Sacrosanct? Got too many complaints about abusive boyfriends in this part of town?" I show her the flash of a grin. Yes, I'm a big smartass and a tease. At least it's entertaining. |
