The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

She was getting desperate. After the fourth day of ramen in a row and her supply of frozen leftover starting to dwindle, Amaya needed to face the facts. She needed a job. Or a roommate. Face it, she needed both. Brown eyes swept over the page she had spent hours trying to format in Word and she cringed to herself, wishing she had some eye for design and detail. It would have to do. One stack advertised a room in an apartment for rent while the other seemed to beg for employment. With a sigh she grabbed the piles, pulled on her boots, and headed for the door before the sun was even up. Firs t she hit the streets, posting either or both pages in any spots that seemed likely and semi-legal to post them. In the back of her mind she hoped no one would notice the phone number on the pages were the same. In business and small shops she made sure to post her plea for work, chatting up small business owners and offering part time analyst work. Some places she made sure to press dance lessons, which was her true passion in life. In one coffee shop the store owner eagerly took her up on both options and she left the shop with a grin on her pierced lips, sneaking an ad for her open room onto the community corkboard in the entry. Her next stops were community centers. Here she plugged dance lessons, talking with program directors and organizers about hosting regular sessions, bringing possible mutual benefits to both parties. To her utter suprise, she walked out of a few of the buildings with tentetive interviews and probationary contracts. As she walked through the streets again the grin was growing wider on her face. The autumn air around her started to warm with her happiness. Wind even started to pick up with her movements as she spun in a happy circle, leaves following her movements though the twist of the wind was naturally impossible. Feeling as though it had been a good days work, she headed back to her apartment, satisfied that it would be her's for at least another month even if she did not find a roommate in that time. Stripping out of the day's feminine 'professional' wear she pulled on nice slacks, a dark red but well fitting men's dress shirt that blended her form into tasteful image of androgyny, accentuated with an orange Nightmare Before Christmas tie (it was after all Autumn). The final touch was her signature brown bowler hat. A quick glance in the mirror and she hit the bar, grabbing a couple more 'roommate wanted' signs on her way. Her good nature following her like a warm summer heat even in the middle of fall, she pinned up a few of her last signs, taping her final one to the window of a tavern food restaurant she walked into the low-key eatery and sat to enjoy an actual meal for the first time in weeks. |
