At least the man had a sense of humor. He played along with Troy as he stirred his drink. But Troy was okay with indulging the man now that they'd gotten to know each other a little bit. Fine, the man wanted him to join his court. Troy just needed to know Amelia and the baby would be safe too. It wasn't just about him anymore. It wasn't so much the fact that Andras' former court was destroyed. He just wanted to know what he'd learned from that, what precautions he was taking to make sure the same thing didn't happen again. When Andras asked about Sam, it still struck a chord in Troy. Maybe it was because there was no closure between them. But he had Amelia now and she was his world. Sam would always be thought of fondly but it wasn't meant to be. Sam was wounded and he didn't blame her for leaving. He just wished she would have had time to say good bye. When he brought up her boyfriend being murdered in front of her, he could tell Andras was surprised. Apparently he was never told this. Oh well. He needed to know. Finally he sympathized and Troy nodded in acknowledgement. There was really nothing else you could say about the situation. When he questioned the man's name of his court, the man's answer wasn't what he expected. He drew back a little, his brows furrowed thoughtfully. "So do you believe as the dark fae? Sacrifices, rituals to the gods, purity and all that funk? I can't see many fae here going for something like that." He couldn't see Dorian supporting the dark beliefs. Not with Sebastian at his side. Then Andras said that it detered others from bringing harm and he tilted, arching a brow. "Has that really worked out for you?" He had to know. Of course Andras was already answering it for him. He could tell by the man's gaze that the memories were hard for him and his own gaze darkened in sympathy for him. He couldn't imagine what it must be like to watch those under your protection die and be helpless to save them. Finally he said that he had more precautions this time, that he could shield his court. Troy tilted his head in curiosity. "Like a power?" He knew he might not have the authority to ask so many questions but he couldn't help his skepticism, not when his family was on the line. The man didn't disappoint when he said that he did indeed know about Troy's family. One brow arched, knowing he and Amelia had worked very hard to keep her pregnancy a secret because of how rare it was. In fact, it was a miracle, something unheard of. A vampire couldn't get pregnant. But Amelia was proving them all wrong. He didn't really want to question Andras on his knowledge though, not wanting to give anything away just in case. Andras added that Dorian and his fiance was already under his protection and Troy nodded, taking that into consideration. So vampires were included. That meant Amelia would be safe, but what about the baby? He cleared his throat, wondering how to bring it up. He needed a promise first. "That is good assurance, Andras. I just have special circumstances. Amelia will be glad to know she is protected. I want to trust you, Andras." He leaned in a little, glancing around. "If you promise me and my family protection, no exceptions, then I'm your man. Amelia would never harm anyone, I know that. However, this special circumstance is not a light matter. I need your promise." He waited for that before continuing. "You see....Amelia is pregnant. With my child." |
